Heads Up, PATH Riders: Increased Fares + Weekend Service Take Effect May 2026

The Retreat Cannabis

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is rolling out a PATH fare increase, with new pricing set to take effect on May 4th, 2026. Then, on May 17th, there will be significant restorations of weekend service. For commuters traveling between Hoboken, Jersey City, and New York City, this is the latest update in what has already been a busy year for PATH service. The updated fare structure will apply across ticket types, including single rides, multi-trip options, reduced fares, and unlimited passes. While the base fare is increasing, riders using multi-trip TAPP cards will still get a small per-ride discount compared to single tickets. Read on for a look at changes happening for PATH riders in May 2026.

PATH Fare Increase Starts May 4th, 2026

Beginning May 4th, 2026, the one-way PATH fare will increase to $3.25. The change applies to riders using TAPP, SmartLink, PATH SingleRide Tickets, and Pay-Per-Ride MetroCards.

Here’s the full updated fare breakdown per www.panynj.gov.

  • 1-Trip Total Access PATH Payment (TAPP), 1-Trip SmartLink, PATH SingleRide Ticket, Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard: $3.25, or $3.25 per ride
  • PATH 2-Trip MetroCard: $6.50, or $3.25 per ride
  • 10-Trip on TAPP Card: $31, or $3.10 per ride
  • 20-Trip on TAPP Card: $62, or $3.10 per ride
  • 40-Trip on TAPP Card: $124, or $3.10 per ride
  • Reduced Fare: $1.60, or $1.60 per ride
  • TAPP Unlimited 1-Day Pass: $12.50
  • TAPP Unlimited 7-Day Pass: $42.75
  • TAPP Unlimited 30-Day Pass: $131.50

For regular PATH riders, the fare increase represents a higher overall commuting cost, especially for those traveling between New Jersey and Manhattan multiple times per week. Multi-trip TAPP options still provide a discount, with rides averaging $3.10 per trip when purchasing 10, 20, or 40 trips. The fare adjustment comes as the Port Authority continues work on long-term infrastructure projects, service improvements, and system upgrades across the PATH network

“The resumption of direct weekend service in and out of Hoboken, and the end of the Hoboken detour for Jersey City riders, not only saves time for everyone but also marks a larger turning point for PATH as we position the 118-year-old system for an even more reliable and robust future,” said Port Authority Executive Director Kathryn Garcia.
