Our Hoboken Girl Helps Prom Prep Rally + Dress Donation Drive {Recap}

Written by:

Last month, we organized a prom dress drive for students in Hudson County. Here’s a peek inside this #HobokenGirlHelps volunteer initiative:

Every year, prom is a highly anticipated and monumental night, giving high school girls {and guys} a chance to look and feel their best while dancing the night away with their friends. But, between the dress, the hair, the makeup, the shoes, and the flowers, prepping for prom can quickly become pretty expensive. With that in mind, Hoboken Girl Helps joined with several local businesses to host locations for residents to donate dresses and suits so that the students of Hudson County could share in the joy of prom — without breaking the bank.

In pursuit of this goal, Hoboken Girl Helps developed a fundraiser called Prom Pep Rally. Hoboken High School, Alba Boutique, Hudson Family Chiropractic, and Boutique Realty were used as drop-off locations and over the course of three weeks, we collected over 1000 {!!!} dresses  along with other formal wear, jewelry, and new cosmetics and hair products.

The sale kicked-off on April 26th, turning Hoboken High School into a prom dress haven. Each dress or suit cost $5, jewelry cost $3, and makeup cost $1 each piece. Stylist Tiffany Piñero was there to assist students in curating their best looks. And if helping dozens of local ladies find dresses and accessories wasn’t enough, 100% of the proceeds {almost $500} went to Suits for Success, a non-profit that helps adult individuals on their quest for full-time employment.

Plus, the organization was able to use the remaining clothes for their own professional attire and tag sale that will raise money for those in need. A few more pics from the awesome day:

After the overwhelming success of the Prom Prep Rally, Hoboken Girl Helps developed a full lineup of volunteer opportunities coming your way. Stay tuned for more ways to get involved and give back to the community we call home. Thank you to all who participated!
