New Jersey hosted a general election today, November 4th, 2025. Statewide, voters went to the polls to elect a new governor, state senators, and state assemblypeople. The gubernatorial election has been capturing national attention, making headlines as a neck-and-neck race based on early polling. Votes are still being counted, The Local Girl will update vote totals as precincts report them. This article will be also updated to reflect any updates in the event of recounts or other anomalies as the information becomes available. New Jersey Seeks New Governor
Governor Phil Murphy’s term is coming to an end, and will not seek re-election since New Jersey term limits stipulate that governors may not serve more than two terms in a row. The two candidates that have advanced from the June primaries are seeking Governor Murphy’s office are Republican Party candidate Jack Ciatarelli Democratic Party candidate Mikie Sherill. Third-party candidates that will also appear on the ballot include Libertarian party Vic Kaplan and Socialist Workers party candidate Joanne S. Kuniansky.

As of 9:32PM EST on Tuesday, November 4th, the Associated Press has called the 2025 New Jersey Gubernatorial Election for Mikie Sherrill with 64% of votes counted.
- Jack Ciatarelli, Republican : 890,136 votes
- Vic Kaplan, Libertarian: 6,824 votes
- Joanne S. Kuniansky : 4,694
- Mikie Sherrill, Democrat : 1,195,972 votes
