A Jennifer’s Way Bakery NYC Trip for Gluten Free Eats

I recently ventured to NYC on an early Saturday morning for what were rumored to be the freshest and best gluten free bagels from a famous bagel shop. After two years of being gluten free, cravings are inevitable. I will not mention the bagel shop name, however, I was extremely disappointed when I got there. The bagels were stale, dry, and the staff was not very accommodating.

I left very unhappy and was about to head home when I came across Jennifer’s Way Bakery. Located on a quiet street in the East Village, this quaint bakery is unassuming except for the sign outside that says, “Fresh Baked Everyday!” It took me a second to realize whose bakery this was; owned and operated by the beautiful actress, Jennifer Esposito.

She was diagnosed with Celiac’s disease several years ago and after starting a blog, writing a book, she then opened up a gluten free bakery, Jennifer’s Way Bakery. All items are also dairy free, soy free, peanut free, allergy friendly, refined sugar free. There are several vegan options, as well.

I tried and sampled the poppyseed bagel, donut holes, pumpkin and chocolate chip cookies. ALL were amazing. The bagel was fresh and tasted more like a bread, but as close to a real bagel as I remember. The donut holes and cookies were so light and flavorful. Most gluten free baked goods are loaded with sugar to make up for the lack of wheat flour. These sweets were anything but sugar heavy.

I can’t wait to go back and try more. They make breads, cakes, muffins, cookies, pies, and more! The best part of my trip was seeing Jennifer there baking! Such a great surprise to see her and know her heart and soul is in this bakery. Launching soon, they will also be shipping their baked goods. For more information about the bakery, click here.

Ci Vediamo. Mangia bene, Hoboken!

Val is a Hoboken resident who grew up half Italian, lived abroad in Rome, and watched her grandmother make everything from minestrone to lasagna…which in turn put her on a journey to find the best pizza, gnocchi and Italian desserts in Hoboken. She recently was diagnosed with a gluten intolerance which has put her on a special HG mission: to find all of the best gluten-free eats in town! Give her a glass of Chianti and some Nutella and she is one happy girl!
