Welcome to the Roaring ‘20s, Hudson County! It’s a new decade, but live music is still {of course} a cornerstone for the area. Starting a new year {or in this case a new decade} can be tough, but these local artists are ready to rock you into 2020. In the spirit of bringing people together, January is filled with intimate concerts that are perfect for any get together. Read on to find out what live music acts are happening in Hoboken + Jersey City in January 2020.

January 3rd — B Street Band at 11:00PM @ Willie McBride’s

Club Pilates 2023

You don’t want to miss the original Bruce Springsteen cover band, B Street, this Friday at Willie McBride’s. Together since 1980, these musicians know how the ins and outs of NJ, just like Bruce. B Street Band comes on at 11:00PM. Check out more information here.

January 3rd — The Latest Noise Presents: A Night of Covers at 10:00PM @ Finnegan’s

Hosted by rock band The Latest Noise, various artists from the Tom Petty band, Ween, and Trash Paisley will come together to perform three full sets of covers. Check out more information here.

January 4th — Nine Deeez Nite at 11:00PM @ Willie McBride’s

Throw it back to the decade of pop-punk and low-rise jeans with this ’90s tribute band, Nine Deeez Nite. They previously opened for the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Metlife Stadium and perform at Rutgers University Dance Marathon each year. Featuring songs by artists like the Backstreet Boys, Vanilla Ice, and Snoop Dog, this four-man band is sure to bring out your inner teenager. Check it out here.

January 6th — Free Music Session for Kids at 5:30PM @ Harborside Atrium

Inside the Mack-Cali building’s District Kitchen, a free music session for kids will be held by JCFamilies, a non-profit organization that runs tons of family events throughout the year. Be there at 5:30PM for music, food, and fun. For more information, head here.

January 9th — James Calleo at 8:00PM @ Fox and Crow

Hoboken Guy of the Week and singer + songwriter James Calleo will be performing at Fox and Crow next Thursday. The New Jersey native never fails to make his Jersey City audience smile. Check out the details and more tour dates here.

January 11th — Piano Duo Vyachselav + Hakobyan at 7:00PM @ Mana Contemporary

These award-winning pianists will perform at the Mana Contemporary in Jersey City next Saturday at 7:00PM. Vyachselav Gryaznov and Karén Hakobyan will present an original composition “Rhapsody in Black” in three movements. See more information here.

January 14th — “Now or Never” Music Showcase Competition at 8:00PM @ Quantum Sound

LUF Entertainment presents the “Now or Never” Music Showcase Competition at the newly renovated Quantum Sounds Restaurant and Bar in Jersey City. First, second, and third place out of 14 bands will receive prizes. Tickets are $25 and you can check out the event here.

January 17th — bwè Hoboken: Open Mic Night at 8:30PM @ bwè cafe

If you’re looking to showcase your singer-songwriter skills, or even relax and sip on some matcha tea, check out bwè cafe later in January. A monthly event, this open mic night is for music, poetry, dance, comedy, magic, and the spoken word. See more information here.

January 18th + 19th — Green Day + AC/DC Performance Program Shows at 12:00PM @ Northern Soul

The School of Rock Hoboken will host its bi-annual Fall 2019 student showcase later this month at 12:00PM. A two-day event at Northern Soul, the artists are performing songs by Green Day + ACDC for a full day of rock music. For more details, head here.

January 23rd — Just Now Orchestra at 8:00PM @ Fox and Crow

For a night of live music and poetry, head to Fox and Crow on January 23rd to see Jersey City’s Just Now Orchestra. The trio will perform improvised tunes for their audience starting at 8:00PM. Check out more information here.

January 24th — Green Knuckle Material at 11:00PM @ Willie McBride’s

Indie pop-rock band Green Knuckle Material will perform at Willie McBride’s on Friday the 24th at 11:00PM. The group often performs in Hudson County, but this time they’re bringing Elephants Dancing, a Pennsylvania-based band and friends. For additional details, check out the Facebook event here.

January 25th — The Outcrops at 10:00PM @ Finnegan’s Pub

Blues and soul band The Outcrops will perform at Finnegan’s Pub on the last Saturday of the month. With inspiration from the Allman Brothers and the Grateful Dead, this is a show you don’t want to miss. Check out more details here.

January 31st — The Schwam at 11:00PM @ Willie McBride’s 

Rock, ska, and punk band The Schwam will play at Willie McBride’s Friday the 31st. They are heavily influenced by the Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, and Sublime, bringing together their unique talent to create albums like “Outrun the Sun.” Check them out at 11:00PM and see more information here.

The Underground {116 Newark Avenue, Jersey City}: From 7:00PM-12:30AM, be surprised with the musical genre of the night. A variety ranges from jazz to rat pack and burlesque to pop.

McSwiggan’s Pub {110 1st Street, Hoboken}: Live Music Mondays and Wednesdays.
