There are two bookstores in Hoboken and we cherish them. There’s Symposia Bookstore, the only used bookstore in the area that has been serving the community for years, and Little City Books, known for its top-notch curation of books in all genres. Little City Books has operated two shops in town, one downtown, and one uptown. Unfortunately, it was announced that the uptown location at 1401 Adams Street is closing its annex inside of bwè’s North End coffee shop. Read on for the details of the uptown Hoboken bookstore’s closing.

Little City Books opened its original location on 1st Street, just a block down from Washington Street. A few years after its debut, the popular independent, community-centered business announced that it was expanding to another location uptown in January 2020. Nestled inside bwè’s second Hoboken location at 14th and Adams Street, it carried a similar but smaller collection of books than its parent shop – catering to the book and coffee lovers of uptown Hoboken.

On February 24th, the bookstore’s Instagram account posted about the closure stating, “The GOOD news is that EVERYTHiNG in the uptown shop is now 50% off. The BAD news is that Monday (Feb 28) will be our last day in @bwekafe, much as we love and adore them completely we need to focus on our downtown shop, which is busy busy busy.”

While we’re sad to see the uptown shop go, we know we can get our book fix anytime at the 1st Street shop. Make sure you’re shopping small for as much as you can — but especially books.
