Grace’s interest in photography started when she was a teenager and led her to the School of Visual Arts in NYC. She then settled down in New Jersey and officially opened her business, Grace Brown Photography, in 2014. She’s had the opportunity to work in all different facets of the photography industry, including weddings, family portraits, corporate work, musicians, artists, start-ups, non-profits, business headshots, interior design, and more. She’s found that keeping a broad range of work helps her learn and perfect different skills that can be used for any shoot. “My work has developed me as a human and guided me towards some of the best, most incredible experiences and people in my life.”
Back in 2011 Grace started a project where she worked with survivors of sexual abuse, photographing them holding posters with quotes from their attackers. Over the course of the next few years, she had the opportunity to meet incredibly brave people and share their stories for them via photographs. “I ended up photographing over 600 survivors, and I think as long as I live, that will be the biggest highlight and honor of my career — to be trusted with delicate information and trusted to share it in a meaningful way.”
Weddings
Grace thinks of photographing weddings as visual storytelling — she tells the story of your wedding day through images taken in candid and photojournalistic ways. She pulls inspiration from weddings photographers like Rebecca Yale and Jose Villa, but her primary driving force has been from a variety of incredible women she’s met over her years working.
She’s photographed over 250 weddings {that’s a lot of love} and her photos are based on how she’s connecting to her clients, their family, and friends. {Her favorite part of the day is hearing the couple’s vows to each other, and we can’t blame her!} Grace has a keen eye for intimate moments, and strives to create a visual narrative for her clients while also making sure all the small details of your big day are captured. She feels that it’s a privilege to watch couples commit to each other and is honored to be part of their day.
Grace loves the personal connections she creates in her wedding and portrait work and often has lasting relationships with her clients, meeting up with them long after the work is over to grab dinner or drinks and catch up.
