It’s hard to believe that June is almost already over, but here we are. To help you prep for the Fourth of July 2018 holiday {SRSLY, it’s next week}, we’re sharing a ton of events happening this week in Hoboken + Jersey City for all of your happy hour needs. With plenty of food and drinks involved, it’s bound to be a good time. Below, you’ll find our picks of our favorite happy hour events going on this week in Hoboken + Jersey City {June 25th – July 1st, 2018}.

Monday – June 25th
Spanky’s Gourmet Grub at Pier 13 {Hoboken}
Spanky’s food truck is rocking the pier this Monday and will serve up some cold beer + great food. Their motto, “life’s too short to eat lousy food” speaks for itself.
Karaoke Battle of the Kings at LITM {140 Newark Avenue, Jersey City}
Karaoke night here is about to get real – Michael Jackson vs. Elvis. The King of Rock and The King of Pop will battle it off and the lucky winner will win a $25 bar tab and their choice of Monday Mules. To participate, be there at 9:00PM {karaoke start time} and all you have to do is sing a song by one of the legends. On top of this sing-a-long event, LITM will have $5 martinis, beer, + wines from 5:00PM-7:00PM, $7 mules and $11 fish and chips all night.
Tuesday – June 26th
Happy Hour at Cadillac Cantina {80 River Street, Hoboken}
Cadillac Cantina’s menu for happy hour {4:00PM-8:00PM} will have you wanting to try everything on it. Corona light draft, Coors light draft, Dos Equis draft, + amber draft are all $3, pink pyrat sangria is $5, Cuervo silver margaritas, pyrat rum mango punch, skeleton white (gruner), hob nob red blend are $6. For some munchies, get some guac + chips served with two margaritas for $20.
Women’s Sailing Focus Group at ANDCO {201 Montgomery Street, Jersey City}
Set Sail Fashion and Lahar Pasad Designs are creating a women’s focus group to explore your fashion wants in nautical clothing and accessories. Start off this focus group from 7:00PM-8:00PM and finish the night with mingling + refreshments from 8:00PM-9:00PM {Also – gift bags, raffle, + style tips will be incorporated}.

Wednesday – June 27th
Disney Parks Trivia at Black Bear Grill {205 Washington Street, Hoboken}
Calling all Disney fanatics! On Wednesday, test your knowledge about the Walt Disney Parks at 8:00PM. You read that correctly, a trivia devoted to the Happiest Place on Earth. Create your team full of fellow Mickey-lovers, and register here to secure your table.
Local Beer and Cheese Pairing at Liberty Harbor {333 Grand Street, Jersey City}
A ticket of $35 will enter you into this high-quality beer and cheese pairing event. Experts will guide you help you take this journey to experience the best of beer and cheese Jersey City has to offer. Thursday – June 28th
Call Me Old Fashioned at W Hoboken {225 River Street, Hoboken}
Right outside of the W Hoboken from 5:30PM-8:30PM, ABSOLUT ELYX is bringing an outdoor bar serving signature cocktails. There will also be live music by The Wright Trio — which you can enjoy while sippin’ on some tasty drinks.
Hamilton Inn & Hamilton Pork Dine-Out {708 Jersey Avenue + 247 10th Street, Jersey City}
Hudson County CASA invites everyone for a dine-out event for a cause. From 5:00PM-10:00PM, come to Hamilton Pork and the Hamilton Inn for dinner and drinks — help out and donate to CASA, in which a percentage of the proceeds from the event will benefit the organization.
Friday – June 29th
Paint The Masters – Group Paint Class at ARTeVino {720 Monroe Street, Hoboken}
A group paint + sip class for all the art lovers at ARTeVino: This weeks painting will be “Blossoming Almonds” by Van Gogh. The event starts at 7:00PM and ends at 10:00PM. Seats fill up fast, so be sure to save yours here!

The Burning Bees at Taphaus {2 2nd Street, Jersey City}
Happy hour on the Hudson is one of the best ways start off the weekend. From 6:00PM-10:00PM, The Burning Bees will be performing live on Friday evening at Taphaus.
Saturday – June 30th
Mustachio Bashio at Pier 13 {Hoboken}
It’s another Pier 13 event, and it’s listed twice for a reason. You guessed it – it’s a mustache party! The only way to celebrate an event like this is with mustache swizzle sticks going into drinks + fake mustache tattoos for everyone. Get there at 11:00AM + stay up until 11:00PM {challenge: see how long your mustache can last}! The funniest looks will be awarded with free t-shirts.
Manhattan Celtic 20th Anniversary Party at The Hutton {225 Hutton Street, Jersey City}
At 5:00PM this Saturday, Manhattan Celtic {an amateur sports team} is celebrating their 20th anniversary. To support the club, tickets are on sale here for the all-day event. It includes a 2-hour open bar with food + shuttle bus transportation to/from The Hutton. Tickets are limited.
Sunday – July 1st
Bottomless Brunch at BIN 14 {1314 Washington Street, Hoboken}
The only thing better than brunch: bottomless brunch. At BIN 14, score a set deal for one small plate, one entree, + unlimited mimosas, bellinis, and bloody mary’s for a total of 90 minutes. A major plus for families – it is a kid-friendly environment and offers their own brunch menu for the little ones {fun for the whole family}.
RSVLTs x DSBC = Fourth of Jul-IPA at Departed Soles Brewing Co. {150 Bay Street, Jersey City}
From 1:00PM-7:00PM, the Fourth of Jul-IPA returns in 2018 with a slightly more hazy malt base to their craft beers. This event is to let the guests taste the magic of India Pale Ales all day. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to local veteran’s groups + is a great way to show how much we support our troops.

How to Properly Dispose of Your Christmas Tree
For the holiday revelers who have enjoyed the pine scent of a real Christmas tree at home this season, the unfortunate part you’ve dreaded is here — taking down the tree. From squeezing it through narrow brownstone doorways to elevators filled with needles to wrapping your tree in a fitted sheet like a dead body, sometimes it feels like the tree always wins. Luckily, we’re here to help with what to do — and not do — when it’s time to take down the Christmas tree. Read on to learn what to do to safely and responsibly dispose of your tree in Northern New Jersey.
Christmas Tree Do’s
Municipalities throughout New Jersey all have their tree collection schedules. In most cases, the trees are chipped and made into mulch which is often freely available to residents.
Hoboken — Trees should be placed at the curb on Tuesday or Thursday evenings after 7:30PM (after 9PM on Washington Street).
Jersey City — Place your tree curbside Wednesday evening between the hours of 5PM + 7PM. Trees are picked up every Thursday citywide through January 29th.
Weehawken — Curbside pick-up is easy but needs to be arranged with the Department of Public Works.
Montclair — The Parks and Shade Tree Division at the Department of Community Services will collect Christmas trees from curbside throughout January weekly.

Christmas Tree Don'ts
For curbside pickup, Christmas trees must be free of ornaments, tinsel, lights, stands, and anything else that isn’t a tree. Do not wrap the tree or put it in a garbage bag. Wreaths and garlands are not part of the municipal tree pickup. You’ll have to put those with your regular garbage.
It should go without saying that you cannot recycle your artificial Christmas tree, but we’ll still say it here just in case.
Never burn your Christmas tree in a fireplace or wood stove. Burning the tree may contribute to creosote buildup and could cause a chimney fire. It’s also worth noting that coniferous needles contain nitrogen and substances called terpenes which are highly toxic when burned, making the smoke unsafe.
Fire Hazard
Strictly speaking, a real Christmas tree is always a fire hazard. As the needles start to dry out, that fire risk increases. Four weeks, continuously replenishing the water, is the generally recommended time for safely keeping your tree up. That’s separate from the tradition that directs Christmas tree removal 12 nights after Christmas (yes, like the song), on the Christian day of the Epiphany, January 6th, that celebrates the three Wise Men who followed a star to make it a bit late for the baby Jesus welcoming party.
If you’ve invested in an artificial tree, all rules are off. Feel free to keep that baby up year-round as a coat rack, fully decorated for Christmas in July, or for whatever purpose you wish.

Get Crafty
Everyone is a maker these days. The more techie our work lives get, the more we want to construct something with our hands. Your old Christmas tree offers up quite a few potential projects if you aren’t quite ready to kick it to the curb.
Wider parts of the tree’s trunk can be cut into tree rounds and used for all sorts of things. You can make coasters and trivets from the rounds and tic-tac-toe game sets from assorted pieces. Cut a groove in a piece of wood for a card stand to keep your wifi login on display for guests. Make fresh-scented sachets from the needles. Bird feeders are an easy project and act of kindness to the birds: cut a foot-long branch off your tree, cover it in peanut butter, roll it in birdseed, hang it from a tree outside, and start waiting for spring.
