Hoboken Girl Helps Formalwear Sale — Statement of Cancellation:
In an effort to take all prudent measures to protect the health and safety of our volunteers and sale attendees as the spread of COVID-19 accelerates, we are sad to announce that we will be canceling our Formalwear Sale on March 28, 2020, at the Hoboken Community Center.
These measures, developed in consultation with the Hoboken Department of Health and Human Services, reflect the seriousness of this situation and they are taken in the best interests of all members of our community, especially given that the sale takes place at the Senior Center in Hoboken. It is important to note that there are no reports of the virus among any of our participants, team, or community at this time.
We are taking these steps, based in part on advice from public health officials about social distancing because we believe it is time to exercise caution and implement the postponement plans that have been created for situations like this one.
A huge thank you to everyone who has donated to our sale thus far, our drop-off locations, as well as our volunteers and Volunteer Coordinators Jordan and Joelle who have worked tirelessly to help sort items — as well Cube Smart in Hoboken, who has generously allowed us to use a storage unit free of charge for 6 months.
We will not be hosting the sale this year, but instead, we will be donating all items to Dress for Success of Hudson County, as well as making a monetary donation directly to the non-profit to supplement. Usually, at the end of the sale, we donate the remaining items regardless to Dress for Success — but this year we will donate everything directly due to the situation.
Drop-Off Locations:
Drop-off locations will no longer be accepting new donations as of today. At this time, we have notified every donation drop-off site and are asking all drop-off sites to hold the items they have at this time until conditions improve and to not collect new items.
Cube Smart Storage:
All current items donated and already collected will be stored at Cube Smart until we receive the ‘OK’ from the Health Department to donate directly to Dress for Success — including from drop-off locations. They will be picking up at a later date TBD. Our volunteers will no longer be picking up from drop-off sites or collecting.
Additional Donations:
If you were planning to donate to the sale but haven’t yet, please contact Dress for Success and arrange for donation directly. We will no longer be accepting donations at any drop-off sites.
Dress for Success of Hudson County is always looking for donations to help assist those looking for work, getting back into the workforce, and beyond. You can find out more by visiting their website here to donate or help out directly.
Thank you so much to everyone who has so graciously donated their time, items, and efforts to make this sale a success year after year. We are disappointed but optimistic. We look forward to continuing next year, and we thank you for your generosity and understanding as we made this difficult decision!
