One of the most important ways to serve the community is with facilities aiding those in need. The Hoboken Community Center recognizes this importance and has served the Hoboken community for years, with resources such as food, supplies, and shelter. The organization has recently broken ground on the future site of the Hoboken Community Center Choice Pantry, a new facility that will expand food access for Hudson County residents, at 122 Adams Street in Hoboken. Keep reading to learn about Hoboken Community Center’s new pantry and its groundbreaking ceremony.
About the Hoboken Community Center Choice Pantry
Hoboken Community Center (HCC) is a non-profit organization based in Hoboken. It provides resources to those in need, including food, housing, and community-focused spaces for a variety of activities. It currently serves more than 5,000 registered households through its food pantry programs, and also operates other programs such as a Personal Care Pantry, Affordable Housing Program, and Weekend Hunger Backpack Program that serves local students.
The new Hoboken Community Center Choice Pantry is a facility that will serve those facing food insecurity in Hudson County. According to Ken Nilsen, the President of the Hoboken Community Center Board of Trustees, “this project is about creating a more dignified, accessible, and effective way to meet that need.” The project is funded by a $3.2 million investment from Hudson County. It will replace the organization’s current distribution system with a client-focused experience resembling that of a grocery store. Individuals and families will be able to select foods that align with their needs, and will feature refrigeration, expanded storage, access to fresh foods, and other amenities and upgrades.
The Hoboken Community Center Choice Pantry will be located at 122 Adams Street. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday, May 18th, with appearances from community leaders, officials, and project supporters. There is currently no set date for when the new pantry will open, but we will update this article as information is released.
