Hamilton Pork: The Place for BBQ {and Tacos!} in Jersey City

Written by:

Since May is National BBQ month and since Jersey City is full of great places to eat, we visited Hamilton Pork at 247 Tenth St. for some seriously juicy meats, tasty cocktails, and of course — ridiculous tacos. With a cozy atmosphere, farm style tables, chill music, and a hip down-home BBQ vibe, we’ve dubbed Hamilton Pork the place for BBQ and tacos in JC.

Hamilton Pork and its brother restaurant The Hamilton Inn dominate the corner of 10th + Jersey Ave in the Hamilton Park area of JC. Be sure to look for the neon pink pig outside that reads “BARBEQUE” so you don’t walk into the wrong Hamilton {but if you do, order the Truffled Egg Pizza with sunny side up eggs, crispy pancetta, spinach, and mozzarella, and you won’t be disappointed… you also won’t be the first to make that happy mistake — not speaking from experience or anything}.

While we perused the meats menu including pulled pork, lamb belly, pork belly, pulled chicken, and “gigantic beef rib,” we sipped on the Bees Knees {mezcal, lemon juice, maraschino, and ginger ale} — a summer cocktail that makes you feel like you’re in your backyard on a balmy day. But equally delicious sounding are the Grande Cucumber {Titos, muddled seedless cucumbers, lime, and ginger beer} and the Bramble On {gin, lemon juice, and creme de blackberry}. They’ve also got a solid BBQ-appropriate beer, wine + spirits selection.

Now let’s get down to bid’ness. With cocktails in hand and chips + guac on point, you’re ready to get your fingers sticky. Everything they offer sounds delicious, but you can’t go wrong with the waiter’s recommendations: Mexican Brisket Burger {with bacon, mixed cheese, avocado, BBQ, crema + pico}, Cubano Tacos {sliced + pulled pork, swiss, mustard and pickles}, La Pastor Tacos {pork, grilled pineapple + jalapeño}, a very juicy side of lamb belly, and… the sweet potato mash  — you’ll legit try to shove a forkful in your mouth every time you inhale. They’re THAT good.

{Insider tip: the lamb belly is so juicy and the texture so buttery, but also very — for lack of a better word — lamby. If lamb isn’t really your thing, you should opt for one of their other perfectly prepared meats.}

And for the vegetarians, Hamilton Pork also has non-meat items on their menu! The Avocado Tacos, the Brussels Tacos, and all of their salads are meat free.

HP has weekly specials, including for Taco Tuesday and Sunday brunch. But since nobody wants to read an editor waxing poetic about just how good the tacos are here, you should probably just check out their menu. Stop in for their BBQ, try the sweet potato mash or cozy up to their bar and you’re sure to enjoy the food, the ambiance, and the fact that you didn’t have to wait a year or pay $400 to get into this Hamilton {you didn’t really think we’d make it through this whole post without one Hamilton joke, now did you?!}.

Michele mostly writes about her two favorite things - people and food. Though she’s been a Jersey girl since her mother danced on a chair at a Bruce Springsteen concert while 8-months pregnant, Michele’s life is anything but basic. During the day, she's a payroll specialist for small + local businesses, but on the nights and weekends, she's trying new places to write about and stopping for snacks along the way {so it's a good thing she's a marathoner and soccer player}. Aside from adding to her already extensive collection of throw pillows, Michele enjoys a good beer, nachos, and chillin’ with her kitties, Bo and Samson.
