Every Hoboken beauty guru knows that the Mile Square is the beauty capital of the Garden State. After all, there are over 100 beauty businesses in just one square mile. To add to that list, local curly hair specialist Katey McClintock, also known as the Hoboken Hair Fairy, is opening her own hair salon on October 1st. Hair Fairy Studio will operate at 1425 Hudson Street, Suite 19, Hoboken, inside Strand Salon Studios. Read on for what to know about Hair Fairy Studio opening in Hoboken, New Jersey, this fall.
The Details
Katey McClintock, aka @hobokenhairfairy, is a Hoboken-based hair stylist specializing in curly hair color, cutting, and styling. For the past six years, she has performed her hair magic at Up + Out, located at 341 Bloomfield Street and 1106 Washington Street. Now, she is gearing up to open her very own salon at Strand Salon Studios, a salon suite enterprise that is home to over 12 different beauty and wellness businesses.
Set to open on October 1st, Hair Fairy Studio will be a curly hair-focused salon “…where all textures are not only welcome but celebrated,” Katey said in a social media post. “I can’t wait to give you a new elevated experience paired with fabulous hair and unmatched vibes.”

About Katey McClintock
Katey began working in the cosmetology industry in 2016. “I started with assisting first near my hometown and then in New York City, before we moved to Hoboken,” she shared with The Hoboken Girl back in 2022. “I started my career with a heavy focus on color. It wasn’t until after I came to Up + Out in 2019 that I really started getting into curly hair. While hair color and balayage were my first loves, curly hair now has my heart.”

What makes the curly hair process different, Katey says, is the education behind it. “Typically, a new guest is just starting to wear their hair natural and really isn’t sure where to begin. My job is to make them feel comfortable and show them how to recreate at home what I have done in the salon. I also educate them on why I’m doing what I’m doing — because let’s be honest, if they can’t replicate it, then what’s the point?”
Come October, Katey will carry that same philosophy into her new salon, where education and a love for curls will remain at the heart of her work.
