The Announcement

GLOSSLAB customers and members might have already received a company-wide email stating, “Important Update from GLOSSLAB. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, but we’d love to see you at any of our nearby NYC locations – browse locations and book your next appointment here.”

But, checking the GLOSSLAB website reveals that the Hoboken location is no longer listed. The Hoboken Girl called the phone number listed for the spot, and the first few calls rang with no answer. Later in the day, after trying again,  we got a message that the line was a text-only line. We texted our questions and got an automated response. “Thank you for reaching out! Our Glosslab Hoboken store will be closed for the foreseeable future. We have emailed all of our clients to inform them of this decision. As we shift our focus towards franchising, we have decided this is the best course of action for our business. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at cxsupport@glosslab.com.”

The Hoboken Girl has contacted GLOSSLAB’s corporate offices for more information and will update this piece when we hear back.

About GLOSSLAB

GLOSSLAB is a membership-based nail studio widely known for its quick services, membership packages, and waterless concept. The nail salon, founded by Rachel Apfel, was created as a brand to provide customers with the opportunity to receive quick nail studio services. Some of the technology-enhanced services include online booking, cashless payment, contactless check-in and check-out, and performance-based products at the forefront of beauty and nail trends.

The Membership packages include the Unlimited Membership, the Duo Membership, and the Mini Mani Membership. For a monthly fee of $135, the Unlimited Membership provides unlimited manicures and pedicures (including gel, performance, and long-lasting polish) and unlimited polish changes and touch-ups. The Duo Membership offers any two services while the Mini Mani Membership allows for any two manicures. Other services such as nail design, massage, and callus removal are priced at an additional cost.

GLOSSLAB distinguishes itself from other nail studios by providing waterless services, eliminating the need for hand washing in between a manicure and the traditional practice of soaking feet in water during a pedicure. “Conventional water bowls are breeding grounds for bacteria – so we got rid of them. Not only is it more hygienic, but we also save gallons of water each year,” the website read. The polishes are best-in-class, long-lasting, vegan, and non-toxic.

GLOSSLAB debuted its first location in New York City’s Flatiron neighborhood in 2018 and has since expanded to Tribeca, the Upper East Side, Noho, and Columbus Circle. While most locations are in New York City, GLOSSLAB has become a hotspot for celebrity sightings. The salon has welcomed celebrities including Jennifer Garner, Minka Kelly, Neil Patrick Harris, The Bachelor’s Matt James, and The Chainsmokers.

GLOSSLAB has expanded to other locations on the East Coast, as well as its first-ever locations in Connecticut, Miami, and Washington, DC. The Hoboken location was its first-ever New Jersey location, with more updates on its temporary closure to follow.
