Hoboken’s Mobile Embroidery Truck to Open New Studio Uptown

The Retreat Cannabis

One of Hoboken’s most popular mobile vendors doesn’t sell food — it’s actually a mobile embroidery business. Now, after becoming a go-to pop-up truck, Cantu Custom Embroidery is opening a brick-and-mortar location in the Mile Square. Gladys Cantu, co-owner of the business, confirmed to The Hoboken Girl that the new shop will be located at 1422 Grand Street, Suite E in Hoboken. Read on for more about Cantu Custom Embroidery and its new location.

About Cantu Custom Embroidery

Gladys and Edgar Cantu are the hands behind Cantu Custom Embroidery LLC. Gladys, who has a background in digitizing through a course at Hatch Academy by Wilcom, spearheaded the idea of CCE in 2023. Gladys told The Hoboken Girl that her countless hours of practice within these courses helped her improve dramatically over time as the quality of her designs kept growing.

Soon, she began taking client orders from her converted home studio in Hardyston, New Jersey. Now, custom embroidery is Gladys’ full-time job, balancing custom client orders, private events, and pop-ups throughout the Tri-State area. Edgar lovingly credited and gave accolades to his wife, Gladys, for their success. He said that she is the mastermind behind it all, but patrons can always spot Edgar nearby, lending a helping hand, setting up for events, helping the flow of customers during busy weekend events, and greeting customers with warmth. Together, they make up the team at CCE.

Gladys told HG that it makes her “so happy to know that people welcome and accept this new concept”, adding, “My favorite part? Definitely the community! The love and support of new ideas that help us grow, and that’s why everywhere I go, I set the bar high for this great community, the Hoboken community!”

In the past, CCE has done on-site embroidery events at Neiman MarcusJane Do718 Beauty BarChelsea Boutique, and Four Paws Annex. Locals can also book personal on-site events for things like baby showers, birthdays, bachelorettes, and pretty much any celebration you can dream of.

New Studio

On March 19th, the Cantu team teased a new location on its Instagram page. Gladys confirmed to HG that the new studio will be at 1422 Grand Street, Suite E, in Hoboken. The exact schedule of the shop is still being determined. Gladys said,  “At the studio, people will have more options to create the perfect embroidery piece, same 1:1 service like our truck and adding the option of appointments to focus on you as the only client!”

She continued, “People can come in and purchase items we have and customize the perfect wedding gift, bridal shower, college gift, new born, and more.” She emphasized that in addition to having some blank items on the shelves, customers are still welcome to bring their own items to be embroidered.
