A few years ago, the biggest complaint we heard from local residents was that there weren’t enough “good salad spots” in town. Now, we can count them on {almost} two hands — with Alfalfa being the newest Hoboken restaurant to put down healthy roots on Washington Street in Hoboken as of this week. Alfalfawhich has long been a staple of the Garden Street Farmers Market, is no stranger to Mile Square. In fact, the locally-founded salad startup appeased salad-lovers back in December with a pop-up shop in Schnackenberg’s. Now, it’s taking over that very spot on Washington Street for good.

“Come visit our new home next week,” the official Eat Alfalafa Instagram wrote. In another, earlier post, Alfalfa’s official IG wrote, “Over the next couple of weeks, we will be making 1110 Washington Street our full-time home.”

Commenters seemed enthused about the news. One user wrote, “It looks amazing!” while another focused on Alfalfa’s dessert menus, writing, “The cookie and cupcakes were delish.”

“We’re incredibly thankful to Schnackenberg’s for making an indelible mark on the Hoboken community,” the owners continued. “As Hoboken locals, we at Alfalfa could not be more honored and humbled to inherit this legacy, and we’re committed to living up to it (and yes, there will be doughnuts!).”

After kicking things off at Hoboken Farmers Markets, the Alfalfa owners sound happy to see their vision finally coming to life with a brick-and-mortar store.

“From each Saturday at the farmers market to each weekday at the pop-up, we’ve dreamed of being able to serve you all at a full time location,” the team wrote. “Thank you Hoboken for your support and we look forward to seeing you soon. Stay tuned for more information soon!”

“We’re Hoboken locals who started the Alfalfa concept at the uptown Farmer’s Market, with a vision from the beginning to have our own space where we could focus on quality ingredients and a warm atmosphere,” the Alfalfa team tells Hoboken Girl in an email. “Everything we do  from serving a locally roasted fair trade coffee and selecting the highest quality produce for our salads, to experimenting with Southern California inspired breakfast burritos and creative doughnuts  is done with the goal of providing our guests with a premium experience. We’ve curated the best food and beverages from our own tastes, and through our experiences Alfalfa has grown to be truly unique,” the Alfalfa team added.

And truly unique it is! Eat Alfalfa is more than just a “salad place.” It’s a one-stop-shop for anyone craving fresh foods and ingredients, selected with care and made with a vision in mind.

As of Monday, February 25, 2019, Alfalfa is officially {soft} open to all. Previously, Alfalfa took over Schnackenberg’s nightly, Monday through Friday from 6:30PM to 9:00PM. But now, Hobokenites can snag delicious make-your-own salads whenever their hearts desire, and stay local while doing so.

While the full official menu has yet to be revealed online — the Alfalfa website is still currently under construction — Alfalfa wants you to know that there’s more available than quality greens and delicious vegetables. Diners can also try delicacies like doughnuts, and there’s even a Schnackie tribute doughnut to forever remember their predecessor, Schnackenberg’s by.

Are you salivating yet? Then let’s take a quick look at the proposed menu. With featured salads like Dear Darla featuring walnuts and dried cranberries — and the Greek salad — Alfalfa’s take on a classic — there are eight salads to choose from. Alfalfa also offers an assortment of signature wraps, from the Greek Wrap to the seasonal.

Because Alfalfa’s soft opening is this week, menu items may have changed since the last available menu {featured on Seamless}, but the salad shop will also offer takeout and delivery options if you’re in the mood for a salad delivered to the comfort of your own home. Delivery is available on UberEats, GrubHub, and Seamless. {But not today, if you’re trying to go unplugged with us!}
