There have been murmurs building around a tiny storefront in Hoboken for months, and now, it is official: Duo Donuts has been approved to open at 205 12th Street. The Details
The Hoboken Girl first reported on Duo Donuts on November 3rd, 2025, after an HG reader who lives nearby spotted signage on the door of the slim green storefront at 205 12th Street. At the time, details were limited, but the small window sign hinted that a donut and matcha shop could be moving into the space. Since then, locals have been keeping an eye on the storefront and following along as the team worked through the approval process.

In the months following that first sighting, the team behind Duo Donuts faced several zoning hurdles that delayed the shop’s opening timeline. Per community discussions shared online, some neighbors raised concerns about how a new food business could affect the area, while others showed strong support for the concept and the women behind it. Before securing a permanent storefront, the Duo Donuts team had already been introducing its donuts to locals through pop-ups in Hoboken parks. These appearances gave residents an early taste of what could eventually land on 12th Street. Despite the delays, the project continued moving forward.
As of April 28th, following a zoning board meeting that ran from 7PM to 12AM, the City has officially approved Duo Donuts to open. The team shared with The Hoboken Girl, “It was a very long meeting but we came out victorious. We’re just trying to collect the last of what we need to announce it and set a date for a soft opening.”
Duo Donuts is expected to specialize in donuts + matcha, though the full menu and an exact opening date have not yet been announced. For now, the approval is a major step forward for a local concept that has already built a following before officially opening its doors.
