A new coffee shop has opened in Union City, and it’s bringing all the open area coffee shop vibes. Cortaditos is bringing its Cuban flair to Hudson County and will transport customers to Havana. Located at 4501 Park Avenue, Cortaditos recently celebrated its grand opening and is already quite popular in the area. Read on to learn more about Cortaditos Cuban Coffee & Eatery in Union City.
Timeline of Opening
Cortaditos made its debut on social media in March 2020, but officially opened in November 2021. Since then, the founders, two Cuban American entrepreneurs Adam and Andres, have been sharing videos and photos of the coffee shop leading up to the grand opening. They captioned some of their pics, “A place where you will delight yourself with culture,” and, “A place where you will not only delight your tastebuds with flavor but also connect with your roots. A place for thought-provoking conversations.”

The new eatery’s purpose, per the website, is as follows: “Cortaditos, with social good and Cuban culture in its DNA, is a curated Cuban café experience meant to inspire both deep thought and positive energy, to foster human dialogue and animate human progress. We want patrons to feel the weight of the icons that dawn our walls, Celia Cruz and José Martí, and to be inspired by their legacies: a thought and a smile, intelligence and happiness, politics and fiestas.”

Over a year and a half after gaining a following on social media, Cortaditos officially opened on Saturday, November 6th. The grand opening celebration, in the form of a block party, will take place on November 19th from 5PM to 8PM.
About the Menu
Despite “coffee” being part of the restaurant’s name, there is way more than that. Cortaditos has fresh juices in different flavors like orange, carrot, watermelon, and lemonade. There is also a wide selection of empanadas, sandwiches, and pastries.

Some of the sandwiches offered, all under $10, include Cubano, Cordon bleu chicken, Medianoche (Swiss cheese, ham, roasted pork), Croquetas Preparadas (three ham croquettes, swiss cheese, ham), and Pan con Bistec (steak, provolone cheese, potato sticks).
As far as the specialty coffee drinks, there is a wide variety of cafes to choose from including cold brew, cold brew mojito (combined with honey, mint, lime, fresh mint), matcha latte, espresso, Cortadito Bon Bon, hot chocolate, and many more.

“Even if you’ve never been to Cuba, you’ve probably heard mention of café Cubano. To us, coffee is more than just a drink; it is part of our national identity. And more importantly, it is a social experience, one that invokes human dialogue. You will never walk into someone’s home in Cuba and NOT be offered coffee,” the owners shared.
The Vibe
With the Cuban feel, customers can expect a memorable visit to Cortaditos. Inside, there are several murals, including a large painting of José Martí, “a man of virtue, values and a protector of freedom,” according to the restaurant’s Instagram.

Customers will be greeted by welcoming staff who want everyone to have a nice time. There is plenty of seating, even surrounding the outside, which makes the location perfect for a friendly coffee meet-up. What’s also great about the vibrant restaurant is that it has extended hours, especially for the early birds.
