The cannabis industry has taken New Jersey by storm — and Hoboken + Jersey City are no exception. With Jersey City Council recently voting against putting a cap on cannabis dispensaries allowed within city limits, local cannabis shops have grown exponentially since New Jersey legalized recreational cannabis sales this spring. The Green Room, which opened its first shop in downtown Hoboken, represents a large part of the local industry and recently celebrated the opening of its 10th New Jersey shop. An Inside Look at The Green Room
The Green Room was founded by Hoboken local, Darek Wajda who started the company because of the benefits of cannabidiol (CBD). The first Hoboken location opened in September of 2019 and was met with such support from customers that Darek later opened the second and third locations in 2020. The company recently celebrated the opening of its 10th location in Englewood, which joins current locations in Jersey City, Montclair, Red Bank, Asbury Park, Westfield, the East Village, and the West Village.
“We started The Green Room because of how quickly we learned about the benefits of cannabidiol (CBD). Being able to help customers find compliant, lab-tested, and trusted products in a brick + mortar space was impossible. After we opened our Hoboken location in September 2019, we received such an incredible response from our customers that we later opened our second location in March of 2020 and our third in Red Bank, August of 2020,” Darek told Hoboken Girl. “We specialize in hemp-based products like CBD and THC but more importantly, we’re fighting to de-stigmatize cannabis and reach the legislators who vote against its legalities. Our mission is to educate the general public on cannabinoids and how they work in the body. To make sure that people are properly using CBD and hemp-derived products because most people are taking products incorrectly or not enough.”
The Green Room also just earned its cannabis manufacturing conditional license from the state of New Jersey and celebrated the opening of its 10th location at 5 N Dean Street in Englewood.
“What makes The Green Room different is the incredible people who work inside of each store. We care more about helping others than about making a quick buck. When you shop here, we treat you like family — as everyone should be treated. We also stay up to date on all the latest reviews to make sure that we’re only bringing the best products to our customers,” Darek said. “Another aspect is our vertical integration and the ability to control + manufacture nearly 75% of our product line. That’s been the most special part about our new warehouse, the ability to make the majority of this brand in the beautiful state we call home.”
In addition to building out the 11th location at 99 Halsey Street in Newark, The Green Room plans to apply for an annual conversion license to manufacture adult-use cannabis in the state of New Jersey.
The Products
When asked if there was one stand-out product, Darek shared that in fact every item sells enough to be considered a top seller. Depending on the location, certain items sell more, for example, pre-rolls sell the most in Hoboken, whereas Montclair + Jersey City sell more vapes than edibles.
Customers hoping to do a little holiday shopping at The Green Room can expect hemp-based CBD and THC products including flowers and pre-rolls, smokes, oils + tinctures, soap, balms and lotions, edibles, pet treats, and more. A few of the products sold at The Green Room include:
Delta-8 THC, which is structurally similar to Delta 9 THC — the active ingredient in traditional marijuana. Delta 8 offers the same typical effects but with fewer side effects both physically + psychologically.
The “menu” for hemp edibles includes spicy straw-napple squares, immunity blend capsules, berry mint nighttime sublingual strips, sour apple vegan gummies, and more.
Anxious pets can find a calm balance with CBD dog treats, a pet liquid tincture, and cat treats. Pet parents can especially find these useful while traveling, when some pets tend to be on edge about new surroundings.
