The Hoboken Girl Team 
In Jersey City, the deadline to file Nomination Petitions for Mayor and for a seat on the Municipal Council was on Thursday, August 21st at 4PM. Now, all of the candidates have been certified so we know who will be on the ballot for the city council, council-at-large, and mayoral elections. The election will take place on November 4th, 2025. Read on for the full list of candidates and what this means in the election timeline.
Election Milestone
For Jersey City municipal elections, candidates must present the required materials to the City Clerk. Chief among those are the Nomination Petitions with verified signatures. Mayoral and Councilperson-at-Large candidates must have 100 signatures, while Council members must have 75 signatures.
The City Clerk has to check all of the materials, including verifying all of the signatures on each of the petitions, a process called ‘curing’. Signatories must be registered voters in the ward for which they are signing the petition.
As of Monday, August 25th, the following candidates have all been certified by the City Clerk.
Three-term mayor Steven M. Fulop announced his plans to not seek re-election to that position in early 2023. Instead, he announced plans to run for New Jersey Governor in April 2023. Mayor Fulop was unsuccessful in the June 2025 primary, and in light of the August filing deadline for the mayoral election, confirmed that he would not run for a fourth term.

- September 20, 2025: Vote-by-mail ballots begin being mailed
- October 14, 2025: Voter registration deadline
- October 28, 2025: Deadline for vote-by-mail ballot applications (by mail)
- November 3, 2025 (3:00 PM): Deadline for vote-by-mail ballot applications (in-person)
- October 25 – November 2, 2025: Early voting period
- Tuesday, November 4th, 2025: Election day from 6 AM to 8 PM
- November 10, 2025 (8 PM): Final deadline for postmarked vote-by-mail ballots to be received

The State of New Jersey has a brochure for voters with disabilities to learn about their rights, and an online form to report concerns about accessibility at voting locations. The organization Disability Rights NJ hosts a hotline to report voting concerns.
