For fans of Cameron Diaz, it’s actually a good day this week. The actress has been spotted filming in New Jersey for the past few days, and this week, and sources close to the crew have shared that she’ll be coming to Jersey City next.
The comedy-drama for Netflix called Bad Day, written by Laura Solon, follows Diaz as a single mom working at a fictional home store called “Rooms & More.” The story unfolds over one chaotic day as she tries to keep a promise to her daughter.
Earlier filming took place in Plainfield at the historic former Courier News building, which was transformed into the movie’s fictional furniture store. The production has also been spotted in Bloomfield and Passaic — but this week, the cameras roll into Jersey City for another stretch of shooting before the movie wraps in December.
The film is directed by Jake Szymanski (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates) and also stars Ed O’Neill, Danielle Brooks, John Higgins, Rhenzy Feliz, and Jessica Belkin.
According to reports, the project is part of Netflix’s growing New Jersey presence as the streaming giant continues building out its massive new Fort Monmouth studio campus, a part of the state’s fast-rising “Hollywood East” moment.
Diaz, who famously stepped away from acting after 2014’s Annie, returned to the screen this year with Netflix’s Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx — the streamer’s most-watched original film of 2025 so far. Bad Day marks her second big comeback project and adds yet another A-list production to New Jersey’s filming resume, which recently hosted stars like Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Jennifer Coolidge.
Locals can expect some street closures and film trucks as the production moves through Jersey City — and who knows, maybe even a celebrity sighting or two.
