Avocado Mattress opened up their organic mattress showroom in downtown Hoboken in 2017, and they’ve quickly become a national {and local} staple in the sleep space. Located at 12 Hudson Place across from the PATH and train station, this all-natural mattress and non-toxic pillow company has planted its roots in Hoboken. Founded by Alex and Jeff D’Andrea {local Hoboken residents!}, Avocado, an all-natural mattress and bedding company, offers green and eco-friendly mattresses using 100% natural Dunlop latex, certified organic cotton, natural wool, and an internal pressure-point support system made from recycled steel. Their mattresses are handmade in California without polyurethane foams, memory foams, chemical flame retardants, formaldehyde, and phthalates chemical adhesives between the comfort layers {seriously, that’s what’s in your mattress RN!}.

To make you feel even better {or should we say worse} about your current mattress, the Avocado Mattresses are also non-toxic and don’t have any dangerous pesticides or off-gassing chemicals in their products as many mattresses do. They’re even GREENGUARD Gold Certified, which means they are rigorously tested to meet low chemical emissions standards.
“Our mission is to provide you and your family a healthy, non-toxic, chemical-free sleep environment while promoting green living, human wellbeing and sustainability. 1% of all revenues are donated to environmental nonprofits,” Alex shared with us at their downtown showroom.She noted that she and her husband had created the company after having trouble finding mattresses that were not only safe, natural and eco-friendly but also affordable.

The company also sells mattress toppers and green pillows — made from natural latex and natural Kapok fill, wrapped in a certified organic cotton cover, and delivers a fresh, medium-plush feel. Delivery
Shipping is free across the US and in-home delivery is scheduled per your convenience, and what’s pretty awesome is that it comes rolled up and opens up inside the room {so super easy to get into even the smallest of apartments}. This also goes for their pillow. {Editor’s note: Avocado sent a mattress, and when it was delivered, I could legitimately lay out on it without feeling like I was going to suffocate from all the chemicals outgassing — that is a mattress first. Avocado is amazing.}
Fun fact for our Hoboken readers: all of the models on their national website {they ship anywhere in the USA} actually are all local Hoboken “models” aka families from the area, which is why they may look familiar.
