Whether you’re an avid skier or a novice snowboarder, the Catskills’ Windham Mountain is one of the region’s best spots to enjoy fresh powder in the great outdoors. The mountain, just two hours from Hoboken, offers a range of experiences {from skiing to tubing and boarding to ice skating} to enjoy this winter. When planning a quick family getaway or a friends ski weekend, here are five important things to know about visiting Windham Mountain.
Activities
At the main Windham Mountain Resort, visitors can try their hand at skiing and snowboarding across 54 trails and 285 skiable acres. Lessons are available for adults and children. When it’s time for a break, the resort also offers live music with outdoor fire pits and a bar at the base of the slopes.
For a thrilling and adventurous alternative, visitors can tube at Windham’s Adventure Park. This unique experience sends riders catapulting down a 650-foot, snow-covered slope with a pulley system to bring the tubes back up. Finally, visitors can also enjoy the mountain’s ice skating or kids’ snowmobiling experiences at Adventure Park.
Ski Rentals
The resort offers ski rentals, but local rental shops such as Snow Bird Ski Shops are most cost-efficient. They offer skis and snowboards in a variety of sizes as well as helmets, poles, and additional gear. Flexible rental times are a major perk at Snow Bird. Important to note: you’ll need an SUV or a car with a trunk that opens to the main cabin to fit your gear.

Best Trails
With 54 trails, Windham Mountain has a variety of options for all experience levels. New skiers should start out on runs such as the Wooly Bear and Whisper, while more seasoned visitors can attempt Lower Wolverine, Upper Wiseacre or one of the toughest of all, Wedel, a double black diamond on the side of the mountain.
Where to Stay
After an active day in the snow, visitors can put their feet up at one of the local hotels. The closest option is Windham Mountain Village, a local resort in the area.
Where to Eat
Windham Resort has a Tavern 23, an on-site eatery for classic American comfort cuisine, as well as a local pub called Mulligan’s Pub.
For comfort food, try the Catskills Mountain Country Store and Restaurant. If an upscale pals’ night is more up your alley, visit the Vineyard at Windham. This dog-friendly four-acre vineyard overlooks Windham Mountain; they have a variety of tasting options and extremely friendly owners.
