About Vanessa

Vanessa went back to school in 2006 after a career of working in media to become a Registered Dietitian. “I always had an interest in medicine and science after grad school and a career in marketing. They let me take some nutrition classes and 13 years later here I am. If I was younger and had unlimited resources I would go back to school and become a doctor — maybe in my next life. I always want to help people in an actionable way and this is the best way I know-how.” And helping people is exactly what Vanessa does.

Vanessa helps her clients change their lives and unpack all the emotional baggage they have related to food. She was previously a Senior Dietitian at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, and obtained much of her knowledge and experience by working with patients with various diseases, beyond just those she specializes in. She’s also worked with CEOs of fortune 500 companies, been featured in magazines such as Essence, Shape, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, and Oprah.com. She’s currently the Dietetic Internship Director at NYU as well.

She is certified by the Commission on Dietetic Registration in Adult Weight Management {Level I & II} and is published for her writings on bariatric surgery.

Vanessa also gets assistance from Amanda Holtzer, a nutritionist currently obtaining her Masters in Nutrition at Montclair State University. She works with Vanessa to ensure all clients receive the attention they need and deserve.

Services

One-on-one counseling can be one either in person or virtually, and Vanessa takes insurance, which is a huge bonus when working with her. In the one-on-one counseling sessions she works with people based on their likes and dislikes, as well as their goals.

Her services include a mix of the following:

  • Online programming: This helps develop a plan specifically for your individual life. Vanessa develops recipes and goes through menus, guiding you on what the best choices are for your goals. This includes a weekly check-in via email or text. Online programming also allows you to contact Vanessa on social media anytime of the day with questions about meals in order to ensure daily success.
  • Recipe planning: Vanessa will help you find ways to make all your favorite meals in a healthier way, without sacrificing flavor.
  • Shopping for you + with you: Let Vanessa join you on a food shopping trip so you can stock up on all the best items to help create fun, tasty, and healthy meals.
  • Kitchen cleanout: Set yourself up for success by getting rid of the stuff that won’t help you reach your goal. Vanessa helps you do a deep-cleanout so that you’re left with only the best food, snacks, and ingredients.
  • In-home meal prep: Meal prepping can be an overwhelming experience, especially if you’re new to it. Vanessa will help you prep, show you some tips + tricks, and leave with you a plan to get you through the week.

Types of Clients Vanessa Works With

Many of Vanessa’s clients have worked tirelessly trying to find the best education and support to become the best versions of themselves.  When working with Vanessa, clients can expect to have a partner who holds them accountable and helps them maintain balance. “Know that weight loss isn’t linear — it has a lot of ups and downs, but I help [my clients] manage all the emotional stuff along with educating them so they can be set up for success,” is how Vanessa describes the outlook she has when working with her clients.

What to Expect

Vanessa starts by putting together an extensive intake about her client’s typical day, their likes, dislikes, and overall learning who they are as an individual. Then, she works closely with her client to set attainable goals and the actionable ways to achieve them. She provides support through in-person visits, text messaging, and emails. Clients also receive a meal plan, support for a kitchen clean out, and dining menu review before you go out so you’re prepared and feel confident in your meal choices. Vanessa’s clients are known for achieving the goals with her, while maintaining balance throughout the process.

But working with Vanessa doesn’t just mean losing weight — it could also mean getting stronger, exercising more days, fixing some GI issues, or whatever it is you need help with on your journey. It’s about learning to understand how food works in your body, not only physically but mentally as well.
