19th Century Mansion Turned Luxury Venue
Before it became the present-day event venue, the historic Crystal Plaza, named for the estate’s many chandeliers, was originally a residential mansion. The home was built in the late 1800s by famed architect Stanford White, who was responsible for designing the Tiffany building on Fifth Avenue, the original Madison Square Garden complex, and the arch at Washington Square Park in Manhattan.
Owned and operated by four generations of the Janoff family, Crystal Plaza was completely renovated during 2020 — bringing new life and modern touches to every room of the historic property that Max Janoff opened as a venue space in 1917. The $10 million renovation brought a new, fresh vibe to every indoor + outdoor space of the estate, including amenities like a vintage barbershop, a golf simulator, impeccably-kept gardens for outdoor ceremonies, and sparkling chandeliers in almost every room. Third generation Allan + Ronni and fourth generation Max + Hunter Janoff currently oversee operations at Crystal Plaza.
While the building and grounds have since been updated to become one of the leading wedding and event spaces in the tri-state area, it still maintains the feeling of its 19th century grandeur, making it a distinct and picturesque setting for a special day.
“Our impeccable, white-glove service begins the moment you arrive. Crystal Plaza hosts one event at a time, ensuring that our dedicated team focuses singularly on you and your every need,” co-owner Max Janoff told Hoboken Girl. “From the elegant Grand Ballroom boasting numerous chandeliers to the lush gardens that change beautifully with the seasons, there are myriad backdrops to complement your wedding, social affair, or corporate event.”
Each event held at Crystal Plaza is more than just a transaction, according to its owners. “We aim to leave a lasting impression filled with joy and satisfaction for each client and their guests,” Max shared.
Crystal Plaza specializes in many luxury event experiences — from weddings to Bar/Bat Mitzvahs to corporate galas — the organization does it all. Crystal Plaza provides off-site event planning services, including decorating, photography, and a level of catering — including Kosher catering — guests rave about.
“Our creativity and attention to detail is what I feel sets us apart from other venues. Our commitment to excellent service and unforgettable food is why people come back,” Max mentioned. “Our goal is to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to the venue industry. We have clients who have been here many times and say they haven’t seen the same thing twice. That is the goal.”
While Crystal Plaza keeps things fresh with new menu items, there is one staple you can’t miss. The most popular dish is the signature baby lamb chops — which have been created using the same recipe that’s been used for 105 years.
“We are in the business of celebrating the happiest moments in people’s lives. It is amazing to see this process from start to finish,” Max said. “I love creating custom events for my clients. When a bride and groom come in and give me their full trust and let me run with my ideas, they always leave happy.”
