Newport Skates in Jersey City Opens on 11/16

With the holiday spirit in full swing, it’s time to bundle up, dust off those ice skates, and head over to Newport Skates for a perfect start to the winter season. Jersey City’s only outdoor rink {located at 95 River Drive South, Jersey City} is open once again for the 2019-2020 season, beginning Saturday, November 16th, for both residents and non-residents to enjoy. No matter what you’re planning {a big group outing, a romantic date night with your  S.O., etc} this charming, low-key rink is a great spot to enjoy some winter fun at while taking in the unrivaled view of Manhattan. Keep reading to learn more about Newport Skates, now for the winter season.

The Events @ Newport Skates

For those born in the Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces seasons can celebrate their birthdays by hosting a private event at the rink. Put those figure skating skills to test at this beloved seasonal staple — it’s rarely ever crowded and the rink is large enough for everyone to spread out and skate comfortably.

If you work up an appetite after a few rounds around the rink, there is a Morton Williams located directly next to the rink that sells a variety of food and drinks, including hot coffee.

A special Tree Lighting Celebration will take place on Monday, December 2nd from 4:00PM-6:00PM {free skating for residents}. They are also hosting a Santa Skate in December, and a Sweetheart Skate in February. Event details will be announced in the coming weeks.

For those who need a little extra practice to improve their skating skills, participate in drop-in classes, group classes, or private lessons. Private lessons cost $50 for the first skater and $10 for every additional skater. Lessons include general admission to the ice rink but do not include skate rental. 

Admission costs $8, {Newport JC residents get half-price admission with their residential ID cards} and skate rental is $7. A season pass is $150 with a $6 skate rental per visit and for group parties, {10+ people} there is a $7 admission and $7 skate rental per visit.

The rink is open every day, Monday-Friday 4:00PM-9:00PM, Saturday 11:00AM-9:00PM, and Sunday from 11:00AM-7:00PM.

For parking, head over to River Market Garage, located at 20 North Boulevard, Jersey City. Street parking is limited to one hour.
