• Charity Alert: The Children’s Holiday Toy Drive for the {Hoboken} Jubilee Center

    Written by:

While many of may be gearing up for the happiest time of the year with tinseled trees, treats, and toys, some families don’t have the income or luxury to have a holly-jolly holiday. If you’re looking for ways to give back this holiday season, we’ve found a way you can spread holiday cheer this year — at the Jubilee Center’s gift drive.

The Jubilee Center was started by the All Saints Community Service and Development Corporation, which began as an after-school homework program in 1996. Then in 2003, Jubilee Center opened here in Hoboken as an ode to the biblical mandate for the “Year of the Jubilee.”  Today, 100 children come to the Jubilee Center so that they can expand their education in a myriad of creative ways — and they’ve made a huge impact in the community {State Senator Bernard Kenny has even noted that the center is “one of the most important things that has happened in Hoboken in the last fifty years”}.

Here’s how you can put a smile on a child’s face this year:

    Now through December 9th:

Drop off new, unwrapped toys to the Jubilee Center at 601 Jackson Street for girls ages 7-9 and boys 6-12. Toys are in high demand, but anything you can give will be appreciated. You can stop by anytime Monday through Friday from 2-6 PM.

Can’t make that time slot? Call 201-792-0340 ext. 18 to make an appointment, or you can schedule a time for pick up if you can’t drop off there.

Every donation helps! Help spread some holiday cheer this year.

PS: Save the date for our holiday party to raise money for the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps on 12/8!

By day, Tamara is an editor at a women's magazine, but in her free time, she runs her own fashion blog and helps out with Hoboken Girl. Otherwise, you can catch her ‘gramming like it's her job, checking out the cutest spots to eat and drink and redeeming herself at spin class later. Oh, and if you’re curious about Kylie Lip Kits, she’ll happily show you her collection.

    • My friend and I volunteered at the Hoboken shelter last night for the first time and it was great! They are always in need of things (plates, utensils, toiletries) and you can stop by during the week to help with preparing/serving dinner from 6-8pm.
