Jersey City Keeps Title for ‘Most Diverse City’ in the United States

The United States is known a the melting pot of the world because of the amazing cultural diversity. It is a place like no other, unique, and filled with beautiful people, food, dances, fashion, music, spirituality, and more. Holding on to its proud title, Jersey City is 2021’s most ethnically diverse city in the United States, according to a recent study. Jersey City, known for its multiculturalism, topped New York that sits in sixth place. Read on to learn more about why Jersey City was renamed the most diverse in the country.

About The Study

Jersey City was dubbed America’s most diverse city in 2017, 2018, 2020, and now in 2021. The study was conducted by WalletHub, and once again, Jersey City was crowned the most diverse. In WalletHub’s study of America’s current cultural profile, the company compared more than 500 of the largest U.S. cities across three key indicators of ethnic diversity; ethnicity and race, language, and birthplace.

Out of 500, Jersey City ranked 72.62 in “Ethnic Diversity,” a 2 in “Ethnoracial Diversity,” a 2 in “Linguistic Diversity,” and a 158 in “Birthplace Diversity,” totaling up to be the most culturally colorful city in the country.

WalletHub predicts America will be more diverse than ever by 2045, at which point no single ethnic group will constitute the majority in the U.S. for the first time.

Statement From The City

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop stated in a press release, “Being named the most diverse city in the nation once again is more than just a ranking to us here in Jersey City, it is a fact that highlights all we have to offer as one of the state’s largest cities, as a sanctuary city, and as a place where we support all of our residents regardless of ethnicity, race, or gender as we see our diversity as an asset that sets us apart as the best place to live and work.” Mayor Fulop continued, “In Jersey City, we celebrate our diversity, and we will continue to serve as a model for other municipalities to follow as we build upon the multitude of resources implemented by this administration to ensure equal opportunity for all.”
