Meet the Owner: Susan Pascale

A Brooklyn native, Susan has lived in the Hoboken area for over 20 years and has watched it evolve over time.

Hobbs Inc

“I’ve been teaching and dancing throughout the Hoboken/Hudson County area since 2013 and teaching through my Celebrate Life Studio since 2015,” Susan told Hoboken Girl. “This past year I had to make even more adjustments and once again pivot. I lost my puppy, my dad, and then I had to close Celebrate Life Studio [her former space in the same spot].”

In such difficult times Susan turned to painting to stay busy and rekindle her artistic passion.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paints® were invented in the UK in 1990. What makes the mineral, water-based chalk paint different from a traditional oil-based paint is that it can be applied with no sanding or primer, making it easy to tackle DIY projects. Once the paint is applied, it’s finished with a wax or lacquer that seals, protects, and gives the surface a unique sheen.

Susan was trained by Annie Sloan so her expertise comes from the source. Celebrate Life at Home has become the first stockist in Hudson County. Susan carries the full Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® line and is expanding to carry the new wall paint collection before the end of the year. She manages the day-to-day of the business and plans to host Annie Sloan paint technique classes and DIY workshops where the community can come together to be creative.

The Loving Support of a Community

Celebrate Life at Home carries brushes, finishes, stencils, and the full line of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® which consists of 45 colors ideal for a DIY novice. The shop also features upcycled furniture, textiles, home decor, select handmade pieces from local artisans, and hosts paint techniques classes and DIY workshops. The next workshop will be held on Saturday, November 6th where participants will create and paint a November-themed sign.

“The best part about running my store is celebrating this expression of my creativity through the love of painting. I am able to share this joy of color and creativity with my loving and supportive Hoboken community,” Susan shared. “I want to be an inspiration and help make people’s homes a place that suits their new lifestyle and adds a sense of calm, joy, and happiness through color.”

A coat of paint is an inexpensive way to make a big impact in a room and that is why Annie Sloan Chalk Paints® are so popular. The shop’s Instagram account is regularly updated with project inspiration, new DIYworkshop announcements, and product alerts.

“The full line of chalk paints, brushes, tools, finishes and stencils all work together to complete a DIY project and I help clients achieve whatever it is they set out to do,” Susan told Hoboken Girl. “This job is rewarding because I get to help others and be an inspiration for creativity — and that brings me joy.”

Grateful Plaque Workshop

Celebrate Life at Home is hosting a workshop on Saturday, November 6th from 3:30PM to 7PM. This workshop will begin promptly at 4PM and provide each participant with a custom DIY grateful plaque to celebrate the gratitude of the season. The final product will be 18×24 inches, plaques hand-carved by Northeast Furniture Studio in Franklin, New Jersey.

At the workshop, participants have their choice of two paint colors, 120ml cans which they can take home. Aprons and brushes will be provided. Gluten-free and vegan snacks will be provided by Om Sweet Home as well as a Spiked Apple Cider. The cost of the workshop is $125 per person.

Masks are required. If you are not feeling well or running a temperature the day of the workshop, please do not attend. You will be able to pick up your plaque and paints to complete the project at home.
