Jersey Avenue Undergoing Revitalization Project

The area where JC meets downtown Hoboken underwent some major revitalization not too long ago, and it seems that the development is only going to continue. A new, ten-story building is coming to 854 Jersey Avenue, at the intersection’s northeastern corner. The building will include 119 residential units and 14,000 square feet of commercial space. This project is just one-half of a larger, two-part plan for the block and the second building is intended to essentially be a mirror-image of the first.  What currently stands on the 1.6255 acre property is an Exxon Gas Station, Tiger Mart, and a Dunkin’ Donuts.

You can check it out this summer at the New Jersey Festival of Ballooning.

On Wednesday, the Jersey City Arts Council (JCAC) attended at a long anticipated meeting at City Hall to petition for a percentage of the city’s budget. According to Christine Goodman, Founder + Executive Director Emeritus of Art House Productions, nearly 200 artists, arts organizations, and art advocates showed up dressed in red to support the cause. “The purpose of the gathering is to show the City Council how many people value the arts in Jersey City, and how important it is to have institutional, civic support for the arts,” said Robinson Holloway, chair of the Board of Trustees of JCAC. But as Goodman declares, now the work begins.  JCAC has been invited to sit down with individual Council members to work on where this percentage would come from {not an easy task, but one they are willing to work on}. The next hope is to announce a legislation proposal.

Landlord Scam Going Around Hoboken

A few weeks ago, we brought you the story behind Vintage on First, the retail shop that fell victim to a landlord scam. It appears that there is a new, similar scam going around Hoboken. In a tip from Dan Silverman, a Realtor Associate at Liberty Realty, tenants are receiving letters  in the mail  saying that management has changed to “Sorbonne Management” and to send their rent checks to a different address. If you receive this letter {see above}, be aware that it is not legit.

Bucket and Bay Popping Up In Hoboken

If you didn’t already know, Bucket and Bay, the craft gelato kitchen in JC, has been popping up in Hoboken each night {weather permitting} around 1st Street and Bloomfield.  They come weekends and weekdays between 6PM and 10PM, but are planning to introduce more daytime hours, too. If you aren’t yet familiar with Bucket and Bay, they churn small batches of gelato in their open kitchen. Aside from the taste, the best part is that they use responsibly sourced ingredients {grass-fed milk, farmer’s market produce, and fair trade chocolate}.
