With 2023 in full swing, the thought of self-care has been on the forefront of many of our minds. Formula, located at 600 Palisade Avenue Suite 408 in Union City, recently opened and is taking the fitness part of self-care to a new level. With an open concept exercise space where both individuals can workout as well as a place for personal trainers to conduct sessions, this new spot is hitting Hudson County with a unique concept and style. Team HG recently got an inside peek and trust us, you’re going to want to check this training space out asap.

The Face Behind the Space

Owner and Hudson County native, Justin Frimmel has been in the exercise fitness industry for nearly fifteen years. Most notably, Justin has owned and operated his own gym for almost ten years, which has given him a solid foundation for the opening of Formula. He began his journey as a group fitness instructor in 2008, progressing to a weightlifting and wrestling coach and is currently working at his Alma Mater, Saint Peter’s Prep. All of these experiences have allowed him to explore a multitude of avenues leading him to his newest endeavor. Formula is set to provide a semi private, functional space for coaches or other individuals in search of a location to get the most out of their workout. As Frimmel shared with us, “Our main offering is to provide the fitness community a high quality and exclusive training environment.”

A Sneak Peek Into Formula

Every inch of this facility was carefully designed with the perfect training session in mind, thanks to Justin’s background in fitness. Starting with a 90-minute scheduled session, clients are able to take advantage of space and equipment at their comfortability level. Frimmel knew which machines were essential to crafting the perfect workout and selected what he hoped would create the best workout. With the help of a local interior designer, Emma Lynn Design, Justin was able to create a space conducive to the needs of his clients. The driving force behind his equipment selections were craftsmanship, quality, and versatility of each piece.

Equally as important as the equipment, Formula prioritizes functionality and ease of use from start to finish. From scheduling, which is done using the StreamFit app, to the day to day grind for clients and trainers, there are infinite possibilities when it comes to working out here. This allows for Justin to focus on what is truly important — the client experience. His overarching goal is to create a seamless process throughout for everyone involved.

Sessions +  Space Rental at Formula

The Union City facility provides a multitude of options for both personal trainers and individuals alike. Clients can schedule a 90-minute workout block, as opposed to the traditional 60-minute session – because let’s face it, unless you’re strapped for time, an hour just doesn’t cut it when it comes to exercise. Alternatively, personal trainers have the option to schedule clients in back to back sessions, which significantly drives down the cost per hour, putting more profit back into their pockets. Because of Frimmel’s past roles, he understands how essential it is to support these coaches and their work.

“The role of a personal trainer is hugely important,” Frimmel shared. “As fitness continues to become more of a common practice, the individuals who have dedicated the time and energy in being a professional should be given resources to expand their business while being compensated for their work.” It’s a win-win for everyone.

Additionally, Frimmel provides opportunities for the space to be rented out for the production and filming of movement guides and other relevant fitness content. His focus is entirely on how to make every individual experience as productive and personalized as possible.

“The best part of it all is that you don’t have to fight for space. When you schedule your session, you block off that equipment for whatever you need to do, whether with a personal trainer or for an independent workout,” explained Justin.

Another benefit of this co-working(out) space is that members can book a time slot and bring a training partner to help enhance their experience. Justin knows how essential it is to train in pairs, and for the same price, members can bring someone to help join in on the fun. By splitting the price with a partner, sessions are more affordable.

Finding a Good Fit

Justin’s main goal is to make sure that Formula is a great fit for those choosing to train there. He emphasizes that taking a tour is the best way to experience Formula. Frimmel is excited to talk to potential new clients, offer Open House visits, and show off all that Formula has to offer. Those choosing to commit to training at Formula are offered special pricing through purchasing 6 or 12 month memberships or multi-session packages. Everything is completely customizable and can be tailored to the individual’s needs.

The Future of Formula

Thinking about the future, Frimmel has tremendous plans. He is currently working towards creating and building upon Formula’s space for fitness professionals and enthusiasts to perfect their craft. From there, he hopes to produce content in the form of a movement library, purposed for teaching others how to best utilize the space and make the most of their workouts. Beyond that, Justin’s ultimate goal would be to create a training matchmaking database, which carefully pairs a coach to a client based on style, personality, and individual goals.
