About Veterans Day

Veterans Day, according to originally began on November 11th, 1919 and was called “Armistice Day.” The original day was dedicated to commemorating the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Fast forward to 1938 and the day became a national holiday. According to History.com, “Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans — living or dead — but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.”

The American Legion

The City of Hoboken is no stranger to honoring both local and national veterans.  In July of this year, The  American Legion in Hoboken officially opened its doors. The American Legion is a local building that includes housing for up to six homeless veterans. The opening of this building is part of one of the first-ever partnerships in the U.S. between an American Legion post and homeless veterans. The American Legion itself is a national veteran’s organization to help those who have served the U.S.
