Since 2019, Tastebuds Taco Truck has been gifting the Hoboken community with some drool-worthy bites from its 4th + Garden Street food truck. In a neighborhood already packed with delicious food options, in 2022, the Church Square Park area welcomed yet another food option to its varsity-level team of eats when the no-frills, Asian-inspired restaurant, Number 11 Food Store, arrived at 342 Garden Street. Now, these local hot spots are teaming up to become something of a power couple — starting today, April 17th, Tastebuds Taco Truck will operate inside the Number 11 Food Store, serving up its beloved birria tacos + other fan-favored fares on Mondays only. Read on for what we know about this new venture between Tastebuds Taco Truck + Number 11 Food Store.

A Local Crossover Episode

On Sunday, April 16th, Tastebuds Taco Truck took to Instagram to share that it will be teaming up with its neighbor, Number 11 Food Store, for a once-a-week pop-up. Every Monday starting at 12PM, Tastebuds will be serving up “classic menu options” (which, of course, includes its trademark birria tacos) out of the Number 11 Food Store outpost. This joint venture comes after Tastebuds Taco Truck faced complications in remaining at its previous 4th + Garden location.

On Instagram, Tastebuds shared that it feels “Blessed for the opportunity to serve this great city,” expressing gratitude to the owners of Number 11 Food Store (the same owners of Dozzino). Locals expressed equal levels of excitement about the local crossover, with the post amassing 1,438 likes + 86 comments.

Number 11 Food Store also used social media to announce the collaboration, saying that “Hoboken should be more about collaboration, not competition.” The local noodle shop went on to encourage readers: “Grab tacos on Mondays then grab noodles on Tuesdays.” Now that’s a meal plan we can get behind.

About Tastebuds

Tastebuds is owned by two best friends Jiovany and Angel, who were both born and raised in Hoboken —going back three generations. With the two of them being best friends, they decided to open up a business together, and by the looks of it, it was a great idea. They made it through a pandemic and came out on the other end with an additional truck to cater events off-site.

In 2020, the best friends launched their newest venture via the food truck, birria tacos. Birria is a sweet, sour, slightly spicy, Mexican beef stew that’s slow-cooked until the beef is tender and falls apart. Tastebuds makes it with hot beef consommé to dip.

The truck also has several types of tacos as well as nachos and quesadillas with beef, chicken, and veggie options. There are seven types of toppings, but don’t forget to try the avocado pineapple sauce. It’s homemade and absolutely delicious.

About Number 11 Food Store

Last March, team members behind Dozzino, a popular pizzeria in Hoboken, furthered their stamp in town with a third venture. ‘Number Eleven Food Store,’ the latest restaurant concept that specializes in Asian cuisine, opened its doors at 342 Garden Street in Hoboken, the former 7 Stars Pizzeria location, on March 31st.

Residents may recall the restaurant’s name from a successful pop-up that took place at Dozzino a few years back, among other locations. The pop-ups offered samples of current Number 11 Food Store menu items. The team describes the cuisine as “Good food that looks Chinese,” as seen in the restaurant’s Instagram bio (which has since been removed).

If you’re wondering why it’s called Number Eleven Food Store, there are only eleven menu items (clever, if we may say so). The no-frills restaurant boasts dishes like Drunken Noodles, Potstickers, Ma and Pa Lumpia, and Pepperoni Fried Rice. View the full list online here.
