The start of March certainly lived up to its expectations — in like a lion {and hopefully goes out like a lamb} as some decked themselves out in green on Hoboken’s annual LepreCon on March 2nd. But for those wanting a real celebration, we still have the actual St. Patrick’s Day to celebrate on March 17th. And even though it falls on a Sunday this year, there are still a ton of places in the area that will be celebrating because #SundayFunday. If you’re ready to get knee deep in the fun shenanigans, be sure to check out some of these places that Sunday — and all weekend for that matter — for traditional Irish fare, drink + food specials, as well as some other green surprises. Read on to find out where to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2019 in Hoboken and Jersey City {and yes, we asked a ton of Irish bars and many aren’t doing much out of the ordinary — so this is the more celebratory list}.

Hoboken

Union Hall {306 Sinatra Drive}

Known for its weekend brunch prix fixe menu, guests are in luck at this establishment because St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Sunday this year. With $2 Union Brews all day and $5 shots and drink specials running all weekend, Union Hall is the place to be for some extended St. Patty’s Day fun. If you are in the market for something sweet, grab a few orders of the Churro Puffs. No joke, they’re ridiculous.

Urban Coalhouse {116 14th Street}

Harborside Sport + Spine

This locale is making the most of St. Patty’s Day being on a Sunday and is stretching its specials throughout the week. From March 11th to March 17th, Urban Coalhouse will be hitting locals with $3 Jameson Shots, $4 Guinness, Irish Car Bombs {Jameson + Irish Cream} dropped in a Stout Beer, and $5 Irish Coffees.

Northern Soul {700 1st Street}

Northern Soul will be hosting a St. Patty’s party with all of the bells and whistles, all day and night. The tavern will be welcoming guests and serving proper Irish fare, including its traditional Sunday Roast. There will also have live music and tons of Guinness and Jameson, but that’s a given.

Tony Boloney’s

Evil Leprechaun Pie is firing on all cylinders this weekend at the Hoboken Tony Boloney’s: Corned beef, stout mustard, Irish white cheddar & a weeeee bit ‘o cabbage. It sounds crazy, but PROMISE, it’s actually pretty damn delicious. Jersey City, soon you’ll be able to experience this too  —they open this weekend!

City Bistro {56 14th Street}

Although it did not participate in Hoboken LepreCon this year, City Bistro will certainly be taking part in the celebrations on March 17th. The restaurant will be offering traditional Irish drinks and specials such as $3 Guinness drafts, $5 Jameson drinks and shots {gimme all the picklebacks}, and $7 Irish Car Bombs. With spring creeping up slowly, we can’t wait for that rooftop to open up.

Pilsener Haus + Biergarten {1422 Grand Street}

beirgarten-pilsner-haus-hoboken-beer.jpg

Despite its German roots, the Biergarten will be rockin’ and rollin’ all day on Sunday. Pilsener Haus will have corned beef and cabbage, obviously, as well as drink specials all day long. There will be a DJ starting at noon for everyone to enjoy, so bring your friends and enjoy.

ONieal’s {343 Park Avenue}

If you have been searching for a good corned beef dish, look no further than ONieals. While not actually a traditional St. Patty’s Day meal in Ireland, the dish lives on in many American establishments. The restaurant will have both corned beef entrees with potatoes as well as a sandwich and fries, of course. We love the coziness of this place and appreciate that it is set back from the hustle and bustle, especially on such an eventful day.

Wicked Wolf {120 Sinatra Drive}

#WolfKnows how to #Dage {day drink} and will be keeping up the tradition of Sunday Funday even after football season. With a $5 themed cocktail menu, $4 spiked seltzers, $3 Coors Lights, and green Jello, shots you might be calling in sick to work Monday morning, sorry boss. Tables will be available and reservations can be made by emailing parties@wickedwolfhoboken.com ASAP. If you are looking for the ultimate day party, you know that Wolf is the place to be.

Zack’s {232 Willow Avenue}

This restaurant will be cooking up a storm in the kitchen with some really awesome food specials. Bangers and mash {a traditional sausage dish in Ireland}, corned beef + cabbage, obvs, fish + chips, as well as a traditional Irish breakfast dish for all to enjoy. If you are looking for some great St. Patty’s Day grub and awesome drinks, Zack’s has it all.

Mad Hatter {221 Washington Street}

This newer local watering hole will be partnering with Jameson, Guinness, Magners, + Power’s Irish Whiskey this year and is throwing down all weekend starting with Saturday. The Mad Hatter will have things happening all day with a DJ, drink specials, and free corned beef and cabbage at the bar from 6:00PM-7:00PM. On Sunday, The Madd Hatter will be offering a full Irish menu as well as green beers + cocktails, drink specials, and a DJ all day. In order to participate, you have to purchase a ticket on Eventbrite.

Mills Tavern {125 Washington Street}

Mills will most certainly be hosting one of the most epic St. Patty’s Day celebrations, as usual. There will be corned beef and cabbage as well as Guinness and Shamrock drink specials. The tavern will also be having a party on Saturday to start the weekend off right. With a DJ and Shamrock drinks, nothing can go wrong.

Jersey City

O’Leary’s Publick House {788 Garfield Avenue}

O’Leary’s will be hosting patrons all day on the 17th starting with an Irish Brunch. The kitchen will be cooking up some traditional plates with a twist like Irish soda bread French toast and corned beef hash, as well as serving up whatever you can think of behind the bar. On Parade Day {March 10th}, O’ Leary’s will also be giving out free corned beef sandwiches and platters.

Fox and Crow {594 Palisades Avenue}

This JC hotspot will be bringing back its traditional ‘Pint and a Plate’ on Saturday and Sunday, where diners can get homemade corned beef and potatoes + a pint of beer for a special price. If you are in The Heights on St. Patty’s Day, be sure to check out this hidden gem for a truly memorable experience.

The Hutton {225 Hutton Street}

The Hutton has been getting into the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day early with its traditional Irish Sessions music every Sunday from 3:00PM-6:00PM, and March 17th will be no different. The locale will also have a bagpiper starting at 6:30PM, as well as corned beef specials and will be distributing sandwiches to the Saint Patrick’s Committee and Honorees.

Departed Soles {150 Bay Street}

departed soles

This JC brewery will be re-releasing a Modern Cup of Sole session stout, brewed in collaboration with Modcup Coffee, a local Jersey City coffee shop. It will also be offering black + tans {a drink made by layering different types of beers} for the first time ever. Being set back from the hustle and bustle has its perks, as Departed Soles is a great place to seek refuge from the St. Patty’s Day madness {but still get in a drink or two}.

Talde {8 Erie Street}

This restaurant will be spreading the St. Patty’s day cheer by offering a brisket ramen special. If you’re looking for something different and fun, this JC staple is a go-to. It will also have specials on Guinness and Jameson, of course. The atmosphere here is always chill and close to the busy Grove Street scene.

Harry’s Daughter {339 Communipaw Avenue}

harrys daughter jersey city bergen lafayette

Harry’s Daughter will have an official Irishman behind the bar serving up all kinds of Irish classics. We don’t want to spoil the surprise, but the bar will definitely have some Lambay Irish Whiskey specials as well as Irish coffees on the menu, too. There will be plenty of shot specials on March 17th as well as a DJ all day.
