Started in 2013 by Julia Cawley, Deer Baby has five female freelance photographers who focus on natural and authentic family photography. They pride themselves on being able to offer clients an affordable experience with no hidden fees.
Renée, new to the Mile Square and lead New Jersey photographer for the Deer Baby Photography team, is excited to meet local families and capture their special milestones. Her photos are light, airy, and organic, and capture beauty in the most natural way.
“As a photographer, there is nothing quite as fulfilling to me as freezing moments that we want to hold onto and keep forever,” Renée shared with The Hoboken Girl.
She strives to capture genuine emotions and interactions so that you are transported back to that moment in time anytime you look at those photos. Renée’s main priority is comfort; she wants all of her families to feel their best, which is why she asks clients to pick a special location, whether at home or a meaningful spot, for their photoshoot.
What to Expect
Working with Renée at Deer Baby is a beautiful opportunity to capture memories that will last a lifetime. Booking your session early ensures that your family photos will be captured at the perfect moment, which is especially important for newborns who are best photographed within 10 to 14 days after birth.
Once connected with Renée, you’ll begin the planning process, which includes discussions on location, activity, timing, and wardrobe. She will guide you through the entire process, helping to make the day as smooth as possible.
After your session, Renée works her editing magic and photos are delivered through a password-protected online gallery within four weeks of the shoot. Your photos are available anytime digitally and can even be printed through the Deer Baby site.

Maternity Sessions allow mamas-to-be the opportunity to show off their bump. This hour-long session takes place at a location of your choice and can include family and pets. You’ll receive about 50 edited photos within four weeks for $550.
Baby Sessions are perfect for newborns and focus on all of the little details of your new baby – closeups, sleepy shots, and everything in between. Sessions generally take place in the comfort of your own home as you settle into your new family dynamic. You’ll receive about 50 edited photos of your new baby within four weeks for $550.
Family Sessions are perfect for newborn and children’s photos that wish to include parents and siblings. Sessions take place at a location of your choice and include approximately 100 edited photos for $750.
4th Docu-Sessions are different from regular milestone shoots as they document a day in the life of your family. This is perfect for those who would like to remember all of the ins and outs of their daily life, capturing daily routines such as eating, bathing, playing, and cuddling. Sessions are about four hours long and you receive about 250 edited photos of your family for $1400.
Watch Me Grow is a series of three sessions with your child at various ages. Sessions can be a combination of three one-hour sessions ($1650) or three two-hour sessions ($2250). Clients can choose from maternity, newborn, milestone ages, and other major life events to be photographed. This package from Deer Baby also includes a photo book of all three sessions — the perfect keepsake.
