Known as the Mile Square City to many, especially those who have grown up in this area, Hoboken is a tightly-knit community filled with faces and places that make this city feel like home. With few original businesses left, we are all about recognizing those who have withstood the test of time. Case in point — if you’ve walked by the corner of Hudson and Newark Street and wondered about the large art piece that says “Where Everybody is Somebody,” we’re here to share a little more behind the logo. Meet Frank Marciano, owner of Marciano Law Firm, who is somewhat of a Hoboken legend, and has had many roles in the city over the years. His most important: serving the community as a lawyer. Located at 86 Hudson Street, Marciano Law has been a staple in Hoboken since the ’80s. Read on to learn more about Frank, Marciano Law, and how he has become such a large part of the Hoboken community.
Frank’s Story
When Frank moved to Hoboken in the mid-1980s, he found the office that would serve as his place of business for the next 30+ years. Settling in the Mile Square meant one thing — working hard to fight for his community, and he has been doing this ever since.
He realized early on, that in order to meet the expectations of the people who live and work in Hoboken, he had to adapt to the time, and he has surely come a long way from when he first started in the 80s. Meeting the ever-changing demographics of the people who live and work in Hoboken is just one of the ways that Frank shows his love for helping people and the city he calls home.
Over the years, Frank has had to adapt to meet the new technology expectations, putting him at the forefront of a web-based business. Becoming fully paperless and electronically sending, signing, and delivering documents has helped him create a more efficient office space. He is proud of the transformation his practice has made over the years and is happy to continue to make working together a smooth, transparent, and convenient process.
Getting to Know Frank
To know Frank is to love him. He is direct, to the point, and not afraid to tell the truth even when it’s not what his clients want to hear. But his kind heart and focus on each unique situation is what makes him such a loved member of the community.
Frank has been an active part of the Hoboken community for many years. His service to the people of Hoboken stretches far beyond any ordinary lawyer. Frank has represented both ends of the spectrum — from multi-millionaires to people experiencing homelessness. His honesty and easy-to-talk-to nature make him accessible to everyone who needs him and Frank prides himself on helping those in need.
Beyond law, Frank even ran for mayor and owned an art gallery in town; just more items he has added to his ever-growing résumé. If you see him in the neighborhood, you’d definitely recognize him.
Areas of Expertise
When people ask Frank what kind of law he practices, he always smiles when he says, ‘Hoboken Law.’ He represents and caters to the legal needs of local residents, families, and businesses and all aspects of Family Law.
His involvement in cases involving divorce, prenups, adoptions, marital settlements, and child custody has been paramount in the city. He has also helped clients with probate of estates, estate litigation, last wills + testaments, health care directives, and power of attorney, all at reasonable costs.
And as any good Hoboken lawyer, Frank also handles the many aspects of real estate law including closings, real estate litigation, and landlord and tenant disputes.
He often takes on the central role of representing business owners for all kinds of transactions and litigation matters such as leasing, purchasing employee contracts, partnerships, LLCs, and corporate formation for all sorts of businesses in the area.
And if that’s not enough, Frank handles name changes, condo association matters, traffic and criminal complaints in municipal court, and other matters that would require a lawyer. To say he does it all would be an understatement.
What to Expect
Unlike many larger law firms, when you work with Marciano Law, you can expect to work with Frank directly. His direct and to-the-point personality makes him a giant in your corner (and on the corner of Hudson and Newark, at that — had to).
But just because he says what needs to be said and fights for you as his client, doesn’t mean his kindness and understanding are lacking; in fact, that’s what makes him feel like you’re being represented by a friend.
“My office motto is ‘Where Everybody is Somebody’ and those words come from my heart,” Frank said, noting there is a zero-tolerance policy for anything but the caring, direct, and personalized treatment of clients.
When working with Frank, clients will quickly learn that their experience will be personalized. Being such a longstanding figure in Hoboken has allowed him to get to know the people and places of Hoboken, giving him the best practical experience to fight for what is important to his clients. But Frank stresses that if he, by chance, can’t help you, he will refer you to someone who can. And he knows everyone in the area, so that’ll be easy peasy.
The Hoboken Musts:
We asked Frank his favorites, and the answers did not disappoint.
- Italian Deli: I love all the Hoboken Italian Delis — Biancamano’s, Losurdos, and Fiores.
- Fave Local Shop: Angelo’s Seafood Market
- Place you miss the most in town (that’s no longer here): Spa Diner down on Hudson Street
- Non-profit organization you love to support: Hoboken Street Life Ministry run by the Rev Forbes. They provide food, clothing, hygiene products, spiritual guidance and counseling, social service, drug + alcohol referrals, social workers, and Street Med RX to community members experiencing homelessness.
- The best part about Hoboken, New Jersey: I value Hoboken’s diversity, where wealth doesn’t define you; it’s about who you are, not what you are. Hoboken’s residents are notably kind and charitable, so many go out of their way to help others, sharing their time and money.
