According to a message from the Hoboken Police Department, on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022, at about 7:25PM, Hoboken Police Officers responded to the area of 4th and Adams Street on a report of gunshots fired. Upon arrival, officers spoke to witnesses and learned that a group of juveniles/young adults were engaged in “some type of a dispute with a male who was shirtless.”
The report stated, “The shirtless male was armed with a knife and was shot at by someone in the group. The shirtless male and the group ran off in different directions. Officers found .40-caliber spent casings and live rounds at the scene, which points to a handgun as the weapon used. At this time no one has been charged for this incident and no victim has come forward. Further, we have no reason to believe that anyone was shot.”
The report continued that on that same evening, “Police Officer Nicholas Protopapadakis, Police Officer Francis McCourt, and Police Officer Anthony Olivera stopped a 17 y/o juvenile in the area of 351 Observer Highway for investigation. The juvenile had a bulge in his back pocket. During the investigation, the juvenile was found to be in possession of a handgun, which was reported stolen out of Colorado. The juvenile was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. The juvenile’s parent was contacted and notified of his arrest. The juvenile was charged with the delinquent act of Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a Firearm for Unlawful Purpose, Receiving Stolen Property, and Obstruction Administration of Law.”
