It’s a midsummer extravaganza. Hudson County is poppin’ with festivals and weekends featuring great live music acts in July. There are so many reasons to celebrate this month — the 4th of July, Flag Day, and National Ice Cream Day. Get into the summer groove and check out these awesome artists at local spots. July 2nd — We The Artists: Independence Day at 8:00PM @ FM

Snap Fitness JC

Join over 20 bands and musicians at FM Restaurant, Bar + Lounge on Tuesday for an “artist independence day” in preparation for July 4th. There will also be an open mic starting at 8:00PM, so if you’re interested in showcasing your talent sign up via DM @breakalegent on Instagram or email breakalegshowcase@gmail.com. July 6th — Andrew Scotchie and the River Rats at 10:00PM @ Fox and Crow

Hobbs Inc

This funk, rock and blues duo will perform on stage at the Fox and Crow in Jersey City on Saturday at 10:00PM. Originally from Asheville, NC, Andrew Scotchie and Keith Harry are currently on a special stripped down acoustic tour across the East Coast. July 7th — SummerFest Concert Series at 6:00PM @ Liberty State Park

The SummerFest Concert Series hosted by the City of Jersey City, the Jersey City Art + Culture, the Hungry March Band, and HONK NYC begins this Sunday, July 7th at 6:00PM in Liberty State Park. It takes place every Tuesday and Sunday with hand-selected musical groups from Motown to jazz to classic rock to R+B. The location will be in the North Cove Field with free parking after 5:00PM behind Ferry Lot on Audrey Zapp Drive. Each concert is free and open to the public. July 11th — Music in Sinatra Park at 6:00PM

Every Thursday until August 15th check out these free outdoor performances in the amphitheater at Sinatra Park. Next week is the Arena Rock Tribute and Showtime Dance Band sponsored by local resident Frank Raia. Other events include all-stars from The Guitar Bar performing the songs of Tom Petty on July 26th and a 50th Anniversary Celebration of The Beatles’ White Album and Abbey Road on August 8th. July 12th — Frenetic at 11:00PM @ Willie McBride’s 

Jam band Frenetic will make their Hoboken debut next Friday on Willie McBride’s stage at 11:00PM. This four-man group is based in the Mile Square and consists of guitar, bass, drums, and harmonica. For more information about Frenetic and the show, head here.

July 13th — Debra Devi and Chogyi Lama at 10:00PM @ Fox and Crow

Debra Devi, a rock singer and guitarist from Jersey City, and Chogyi Lama, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Woodstock, will perform back-to-back at the Fox and Crow at 10:00PM later this month. Devi shut the house down at White Eagle Hall last January, drawing over 500 people to the venue. Lama, a multi-instrumentalist and producer, performed at the Woodstock Anniversary Festival last month at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. July 14th — Rap ‘n’ Rock Tour at 5:00PM @ FM

In celebration of France’s Bastille Day, FM will host seven hip-hop and rock artists starting at 5:00PM. The Rap ‘n’ Rock tour is presented by Garden State Hip Hop + Makin Waves in association with FM’s Rock-It Docket. Performers include DJ Ronny Rayz, Black Suburbia Music Group, The Band Called FUSE, Mista Encore, Green Knuckle Material, Dane The Beautiful Monster, and Switch Mob. Tickets are $10 at the door to benefit the Asbury Park Music Foundation’s Hip Hop Institute and Beat Bus. See more information here.

July 19th — Mario Padron + Friends at 10:00PM @ Bin14

Mario Padron will perform at Bin14 in Hoboken later this month with five great artists {and friends} including his former bandmate and talented drummer Raj Madella. With them will be vocalist Erica Ramos, Pat Hall on trombone, Jeff Jeswald on keys, and Evan Uriera on guitar. The performance begins at 10:00PM and ends at 12:00AM. July 19th — Suspended Justice at 11:00PM @ Willie McBride’s

This ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s classic rock cover band from Central Jersey is a hit with any fan of throwback music. Suspended Justice will play at Willie McBride’s later this month with a $5 cover fee. The show starts at 11:00PM and make sure to book your free limo ride so you don’t have to pay cover. For more information, head here.

July 20th — Josh, from the Island at 1:00PM @ Black Rail Coffee

Come catch Josh, from the Island play an ambient electronic set in honor of his brand new cassette release from Hoboken-based record label and collective Neon Peach Records. Cassettes will be available for purchase as well as pastries, sandwiches, and refreshments from Black Rail Coffee. Josh is a Hoboken-based artist, and the collective Neon Peach is dedicated to supplying Hoboken with live music and physical releases. For more information, go here.

July 25th — Storytown at 10:00PM @ Fox and Crow

Storytown is a four-piece rock ‘n’ roll band led by guitarist Guy Story yes, that’s his real name. He is originally from Mississippi but now lives in NYC playing venues all over the area. Join this high-energy group at the Fox and Crow for a great performance at 10:00PM on the last Thursday of the month. For more information, check out the Facebook event here.

July 25th — Afterglow Concert Series at 7:30PM @ 77 Park Avenue

During the months of May through September, local management and production companies will host an Afterglow Concert Series at the 77 Park Avenue apartment complex. These will be intimate rooftop and lounge performances from 7:30PM to 9:30PM on Thursdays, featuring Audrey, Althea Grace, Milla Santana, and Jackie Paladino. July 26th — BWQ Crack Up Release Party at 7:00PM @ FM

Indie rock group BWQ recorded its latest music last year in Nashville and frontman Darryl Joo is ready to showcase it at FM later this month. This Hoboken-based band’s newest EP is titled “Crack Up.” Other artists including Hunt For Hunter, Tired Smile, and Wild Americans will also perform. July 26th — Leni Stern at 10:00PM @ Fox and Crow

Leni Stern, an NYC-based singer, guitarist, and composer, will grace the stage at the Fox and Crow on the last Friday of July. Her trio includes Senegalese musicians Mamadou Ba and Alioune Faye and she recently was named one of the 50 most sensational female jazz guitarists of all time by Guitar Player Magazine. July 31st — Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe at 8:30PM @ White Eagle Hall

Karl Denson, a singer and saxophonist, will perform at White Eagle Hall on Wednesday the 31st. His Tiny Universe concert {originally scheduled for June 12th} is a seven-piece unit, which includes The Rolling Stones’ keyboardist and Allman Brothers Band alum Chuck Leavell. His newest album, “Gnomes & Badgers,” speaks to various generations, genders, religions, and cultures. Tickets range from $25 to $30 and the show doors open at 7:30PM.
