An update from the City of Jersey City / JCPD as of Tuesday, August 23rd at 5PM:
The JCPD’s Major Case Unit is doing everything possible as they actively investigate her death. Police are awaiting the medical examiner’s report to confirm the female’s identification and cause of death. The medical examiner did confirm that the female appeared to be deceased approximately 6-12 hours before she was found. The JCPD does not have the incident associated with any other homicides.
Posts on social media in the last few days have reported that longtime Hoboken resident, Kyelia Colon, was missing. Just this Monday afternoon, sources close to her family shared that she was found dead in a Jersey City motel.
Jersey City police released limited details not confirming or denying that she was found, simply stating they are investigating a woman found unresponsive at the Skyway Motel (who they are still working on identifying), located at 380 Tonnelle Avenue.
According to Hudson County View, residents have been sharing tributes on Facebook for Colon.
We have reached out to the Hoboken Police Department for comment, and were referred to the Jersey City Police Department. A spokesperson for Jersey City shared the details that were able to be made public and confirmed:
Sources close to the family requested privacy at this time. This is a developing story.
