The argument was said to be over what time construction work began. One of the men then allegedly took out a rifle and later surrendered after the Hoboken Police Department arrived. One person is currently in custody.

Update as of 11:30AM 8/29/22: A Nixle update at 11:22 AM stated that the police scene at 5th and Hudson has been cleared. There were no injuries reported. The City will release more information once the investigation is complete.

Update as of 10:35AM 8/29/22: A source from Stevens told The Hoboken Girl that there is reportedly an active shooter currently near the Stevens Campus. The school has called an official shelter-in-place, and anyone on the campus has been advised to stay inside until further notice.

On Monday, August 29th at 9:02 AM, a shelter-in-place message was sent out to the Stevens Institute of Technology community, warning everyone to avoid 5th and Hudson Streets due to police activity, per Patch. Shortly after, at 9:40 AM, the City of Hoboken tweeted that the police activity was due to reports of a “male with a weapon,” encouraging everyone to avoid the area between 5th + 6th on Hudson Street.

According to Patch, the area was blocked off with caution tape and multiple police officers were spotted monitoring the area. There was also an ambulance spotted on 5th and Washington.

The City issued a Nixle alert at 10:12 AM, saying, “The Hoboken Police Department asks that all residents avoid the area of 5th & 6th on Hudson Street, as there are reports of a male with a weapon.”

The Hoboken Girl will continue to update this article as more information becomes available. The Hoboken Police Department’s Twitter will also likely continue to Tweet updates.
