It seems like everyone is going out of town for Labor Day but if you decide to stick around, we’ve rounded up some places that are open for some staycation fun. Nothing says Labor Day like supporting local businesses here in Hoboken + Jersey City, so grab a friend {or five} and head to one of these spots that are open for the holiday:
Hoboken
Pilsener Haus + Biergarten {1422 Grand Street}
Pilsener Haus + Biergarten will be open on Labor Day and the kegs will be tapped for a 1:00PM start and the grill will be going for brats, sausages, and all of that meaty goodness. Stop by if you’re feeling like throwing back a few liters of Weihenstephaner. Don’t forget to have a Bavarian Pretzel — because calories totally don’t count on holiday weekends.
Black Bear {205 Washington Street}
Thankfully Labor Day happens to fall on a Mexican Monday, where all Margs + Coronas will be $4 at Black Bear. The newly renovated indoor and outdoor areas are the perfect way to roll out of summer and into fall and maybe even catch a preseason football game.
Birch Hoboken {92 River Street}
Birch is open and has events happening all weekend. As if there wasn’t enough reason to celebrate, every Monday is Customer Appreciation Day. Lucky for us, LD falls on a Monday, which means the entire food and drink menu is 50% off. Three cheers for discounts and drinks.
Pier 13 {1301 Sinatra Drive}
Pier 13 will be open Monday starting at noon. Fingers crossed that the weather is gorg for outdoor drinking {and eating, obvs}. There will definitely be some beer specials and even a red, white + blue frozen drink. #Merrica. The food trucks will also be making an appearance, so come hungry.
Zack’s Oak Bar + Restaurant {232 Willow Ave}
Zack’s will be open all LDW and will be serving up the whole shebang. It will be September, so, go ahead and order the Homemade Pumpkin Waffles, basic Hoboken girls {and we’re so not judging}. There will definitely be some drink specials, so be on the lookout. Swing by around 11:00AM.
City Bistro {56-58 14th Street}
Uptown hotspot, City Bistro, is open for business starting at 11:30AM in typical fashion. Happy hour specials are on the menu today, which means 50% off all beer, wine, well drinks, apps + pizzas. The rooftop bar will be open, too, for anyone looking to catch a few rays while sipping on a cocktail.

The Stewed Cow {400 Adams Street}
The Stewed Cow, one of the only true Texas Roadhouse Bars in Hoboken, will be open on Labor Day. They will start the day at 11:00AM with their infamous brunch — $20 for a little somethin’ from the house, an entree, + two drinks. For that price, you can’t miss this one.
Texas Arizona + Cadillac Cantina {76 River Street + 80 River Street}
Both Texas and Cadillac will be open {and so conveniently located next door to each other}. The Tex-Mex drink and food menu is epic and deserving of some HG kudos. If you’re downtown or coming from NJ Transit/Path Train, it is an easy walk across the street. Tequila is on the menu at both locations, if you’re up for it. {wink wink}
Wicked Wolf {120 Sinatra Drive}
Wicked Wolf will be open on Labor Day and it is guaranteed to be a good time. There is nothing better than drinking on the waterfront with friends, soaking up the last bits of summer. If you’re looking for music, sports, and drinks, get on over to this waterfront bar.
Elysian Cafe {1001 Washington Street}
Anthony Davids {953 Bloomfield}
Bin 14 {1314 Washington}
Jersey City
Porta {135 Newark Avenue}
Porta will be going strong all weekend and extending the festivities into Monday. The weekend will feature a mix of DJs and bands on the rooftop filled with giveaways, specials, giant games {hello, jumbo Jenga}, + so much more. The weekend will end with an All Day Chilldown Collective Luau Party, Monday, on the rooftop starting at 12:00PM.
Hudson Hall {364 Marin Boulevard}
Of course, Hudson Hall is open today. Brunch is always ready to go Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, + holidays. Be on the lookout for $6 brunch cocktails. With everything from Avocado Toast to Steak + Eggs, there’s something on the menu to satisfy any taste buds. Don’t leave without grabbing an order of donuts. Powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, + old-fashioned donuts are made fresh to order all day, every day. Get ready to celebrate starting at 11:30AM this Labor Day.
The Lutze {3 2nd Street}
This downtown JC waterfront gem will also be open LDW for all to enjoy {families + pets included}. The drink menu features a ton of craft beers, German brews, specialty cocktails, sangria and more. The raw bar and other German favorites are available for purchase throughout the day or grab a Pizza Vita pie and indulge — it is a holiday, after all.
Mathews Food + Drink {351 Grove Street}
Matthews will be opening at 11:00AM on Monday for a late breakfast/early lunch. If you’re up and nursing a hangover from the weekend, refresh with a Drink to Chai For or a Peas + Thank you. Besides the drinks, Matthews also has a drool-worthy food menu. They will be open early enough for a late breakfast or to grab food later on in the day.
White Star Bar {179 Warren Street}
Sister location to Matthews, White Star will also be open on Labor Day serving up a number of pub plates, craft beers, + specialty cocktails. Go for a classic White Star Burger or a B.L.A.T. {thick cut bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato, + herb mayo on sourdough}. Wash it all down with a Tea Thyme or Uncle Val’s Vice. These specially crafted cocktails are made to order and are a well-deserved treat this Labor Day.

Hamilton Pork {247 10th Street}
If you’re looking for a country bar in JC, Hamilton Pork is the perfect spot. Brunch begins at 11:00AM and boasts a western food menu + cocktails. $5 Mimosas {with your choice of fresh OJ, grapefruit, pineapple, peach or mango}, Bloodys, Greyhounds, + Screw Drivers, $6 Mules, and $7 Micheladas, you just can’t go wrong.
Surf City Bar {1 Marin Boulevard}
If you couldn’t get to the beach this holiday weekend, Surf City is the urban beachfront that you were dreaming of. With tons of outdoor seating {both off and on the shoreline}, you’ll feel like you went away without the holiday traffic. There are tons of great, beachy drinks and surf + turf menu items waiting for you here.
Talde {8 Erie Street}
Happy Labor Day!
