With a new month comes the chance to spotlight another group of inspiring Hoboken and Jersey City locals. From bakers, doctors, creatives, business owners, and beyond, these individuals are making a meaningful impact in the Hudson County community + beyond. Read on for a list of 10 Hoboken and Jersey City locals to watch this November 2024.

Nicole Tully | TullyMD

Nicole Tully is a board-certified physician and mother who has lived in Hoboken since 2000. After 19 years working at a well-respected local medical practice, on September 1st, 2024, she opened her own practice, TullyMD. Nicole is a healthcare educator and healthcare coach, helping her patients set and reach their health goals and maintain their wellness. Nicole’s membership-based practice strives to help patients fully address their medical concerns in a way that honors them and considers the demands of their busy lives, both when they are well and sick. Her goal is to be able to focus on preventative healthcare for her patients, providing them with the attention and support they truly need.

Nicole’s Local Favorites: “Everything! I love the diverse community, the supportive environment, the accessibility to resources, food, and fun events, as well as the proximity to the city and the beach. Hoboken truly is an ideal community! If anyone has ever had a conversation with me, they know how much I love this community!”

Adam Roberts | Music For Aardvarks

Zap Fitness

Adam Roberts is an accomplished acoustic bassist whose passion for music runs deep. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Michigan and a Master of Fine Arts in Jazz from SUNY Purchase. Aside from Adam’s clear musical talents, one of his greatest accomplishments is teaching children through the group Music for Aardvarks, an interactive musical experience geared toward children from three months to five years old with locations nationwide. Music for Aardvarks was originally founded in 1997 by David Weinstone who has expanded the group to reach 11 states. Adam told The Hoboken Girl “My main goal with Music for Aardvarks is to continue creating a space where young children can explore music in a fun, engaging, and interactive way. Over the years, I’ve seen how powerful music can be—not just in teaching musical skills, but also in building confidence and fostering creativity in kids. I want to continue offering classes that give children the opportunity to express themselves, grow, and most importantly, have a great time.”

Jody Smith | Clarity Counseling Network

Jody Smith is a Hudson County native, mother, licensed therapist, and founder of Clarity Counseling Network, located at 258 Newark Avenue in Hoboken. Clarity Counseling Network is an accessible mental health resource run by local therapists who are expanding their practices to serve various therapy needs. Jody told HG “I love the feeling of seeing people feel heard, supported, and seen, this applies to not only our clients but also my clinicians. I want to inspire people to recognize they matter.” She hopes Clarity Counseling Network can continue to thrive as a safe space where people in the community know they can go and get the individualized therapy they need.

Christina Kizer | Chrissy The Crystal Indigo

Christina Kizer is the owner of Chrissy The Crystal Indigo, a metaphysical shop making its way to the second floor of 423 Washington Street in Hoboken on November 11th, 2024. Previously located in Downtown Jersey City, Christina’s gifts will make a wonderful addition to the Hoboken community. Aside from her popular shop, Christina is a spiritual mentor and healer who helps people connect with their inner selves and find peace and purpose. Customers who visit Christina’s shop can expect a fantastic selection of gifts and metaphysical goodies, community events, and can even have aura photography taken.

Christina’s Favorites: Liberty State Park, the Art House, anywhere you can see the NYC skyline, The Boil, Luna, and Dear Maud. I am excited to explore new local spots in the Hoboken neighborhood!”

Caroline Henderson | For Cup Sakes

Caroline Henderson is a Hoboken resident, mother, and talented owner of For Cup Sakes, a custom cookie studio located at Monroe Center in Hoboken. Previous to Caroline’s move to Hoboken in 2015, she lived in Johannesburg, South Africa where she and her daughter would create and donate baked goods to help their local community. Fast forward to 2020 and Caroline took the leap and left her corporate job to pursue baking full-time. She spent the pandemic baking away and handing out cookies to front-line workers, first responders, hospitals, and elderly care facilities. Word spread fast as she soon became known as “Caroline the Cookie Girl”. Caroline is a proud sponsor of the HPEF Gala and continues to give back to the community. She told HG “What inspires me is being able to connect with so many different people through something I love doing. If I could inspire anyone in one way I would say: When you get tired learn to rest, not to quit.”

Marisa Corrado + Jordan Pease | 301 Collective

Jersey City locals Marisa Corrado and Jordan Pease are neighbors turned friends who decided to open 301 Collective in late 2023. They noticed a gap in Downtown Jersey City’s retail market and thought there weren’t enough places to purchase gifts, home decor, or small items to carry home. With Marisa’s background in fashion and running her online store Nouveau + Vintage, mixed with Jordan’s love for home furnishings and his online store DISO HOME, they decided to merge their two passions to create 301 Collective. As founders Marisa and Jordan simply stated on the store’s website: “We hated our jobs, so we opened a store!” Their friendship, sense of humor, and impeccable taste presented them with the perfect opportunity to bring a one-of-a-kind boutique to Jersey City. 301 Collective also hosts several free events and pop-up markets every month, lending their space for book clubs, sip + shops, and meet-ups.

Anthony Moran | Nice Pass Productions

Anthony Moran is a Jersey City resident, father, and founder of Nice Pass Productions. He is also a video editor and producer. Back in 2018, he began the company with friend and colleague Doug Camberis. Readers may recognize his work as a camera operator and producer for the hilarious series Billy On The Street or their short film Paranormal Relativity featured in the Austin Film Festival. Anthony also won two Sports Emmys working at MLB Network for “Outstanding Studio Show.” The Nice Pass Productions team has dedicated their talents to several marketing projects, and commercials though lately they are focusing on original content for a food-based series called “Day Job” where viewers can look out for collaborations with local favorites such as Scale Fish Market and Darke Pines. The series celebrates the inspiring journeys of restaurant owners and food industry professionals.

BB Stevens | Creator + Music Business Entrepreneur

BB Stevens is a Hoboken resident, creator, musician, author, and music business entrepreneur. BB is also the owner of Mia Mind Music, an over-30-year-old entertainment promotion and marketing company. BB has even produced and composed songs for major stars such as Madonna. Over the years BB has released records with labels such as Universal Music Group and Virgin Music Group. After a performing hiatus, BB told HG that he is officially back on stage singing and playing his guitar. BB recently played a live show at the Two Bridges Luncheonette and Mary O’s in New York City. Locals also may have spotted BB filming his latest music video for the song Starlight In Me on the Hoboken waterfront. He is also the creator of the popular YouTube channel “The BB Stevens Experience.

Bryan Giron + Chris Jones | Perquin Jersey City

As Bayonne natives who now call Jersey City home, Bryan Giron and Chris Jones are lifelong friends turned business partners. Their similar upbringings in Honduran households forged an early appreciation for cooking and food. What started as swapping afterschool snacks has become a full-fledged restaurant some 20 years later: Bryan and Chris are gearing up to open their new Jersey City restaurant, Perquin, at 85 Morris Street. The duo is well-equipped for the food scene — together, they’ve traveled to multiple countries and have worked their way up through some of the NYC area’s most influential restaurants. Perquin is slated to open at the end of the year, serving Honduran and Ecuadorian eats. You can read more about it here.

Strikers Futbol Academy

Strikers Futbol Academy is a non-profit youth soccer club based in Hoboken. Aside from great fun and community engagement for the youth, the organization is also working to raise money for an important cause. Two moms with children in The Strikers Futbol Academy have been fighting battles with breast cancer. They now serve as active warriors for the Hoboken community to bring awareness with annual fundraising efforts. Michelle Barresi-Smith, a board member of The Strikers Futbol Academy told HG “The club isn’t just about soccer, we are instilling core values in our children, teaching them respect, fairness, teamwork and integrity. We want to inspire our children to continue to get involved and raise awareness for any cause that they want to support”. Supporters can donate to the group’s ongoing fundraiser here.
