Restore Cold Press Juicery Opens on First Street

Restore Juicery, another healthy option in the form of green juice, recently opened at 305 First Street in Hoboken. The store, which popped up open for biz on Wednesday, August 8, offers raw, cold-pressed juices with only organic ingredients as well as superfood smoothies, coffee, bites, and more.

Pix 11 Hosts ‘Zip Trip’ to Hoboken Featuring Carlo’s Bakery, HG Founder Jennifer Tripucka, + Mayor Bhalla

Throughout the summer, Pix11 has hosted a series of weekend trips on Fridays to zip codes around the tri-state area. Each Friday, they feature the “best of the best” of the city and the “talk of the town.” On August 10th they featured Hoboken, interviewing Mayor Bhalla, Hoboken Girl founder Jennifer Tripucka, as well as taste-testing cannolis from Carlo’s Bakery and some jumbo slices from Benny Tudino’s. Hoboken Man Arrested After Taking Inappropriate Photo of Teen on Cruise

A Hoboken man allegedly reached his phone underneath a 13-year-old girl’s skirt and snapped a photo. The incident occurred back in July on a cruise ship from Bayonne to Bermuda and now, Jeffery Goldstein, 31, is being charged with one count of violating voyeurism statute that prohibits photographing minors’ private areas without consent. Goldstein now faces the maximum potential penalty — one year in prison and a hefty $100,000 fine according to prosecutors.

The 13-year-old testified she felt something brush her leg at the time before noticing Goldstein walk away. Additionally, an eyewitness of the incident came forward, which prompted the unnamed cruise line to consult security footage. The footage obtained from security cameras confirmed Goldstein’s inappropriate behavior and was enough to arrest Goldstein with on July 31.

WonderLash Studio Opens in Jersey City

Wonderlash is one of the latest businesses to join the Jersey City scene. The new beauty studio, located at 297 Grove Street, boasts lash services {like extensions and lifts}, brow services {microblading for well under $1,000}, and airbrush makeup services, all at relatively reasonable prices. The new shop also announced on Instagram that it is giving away a free tote to the first 100 clients who sign up for a service. By the time you read this, it may be too late — but worth a shot.

Hoboken Brewing Company Releases Two New Dry Hops

Two new brews just made a name for themselves at the Hoboken Brewing Company. Both rather dry HOPS, Double Dry Hopped Double IPA and Dry Hopped Gose Ale are sure to not disappoint customers looking for home-grown beer. Hoboken Brewery is at 66 Harrison Street in Hoboken.

Jersey City Rider Finds Roaches on the PATH

Are there cockroaches on the PATH train? To be determined, but don’t take your chances. One reddit user is claiming to have seen “little brown roaches” on the public transportation mode that services both Hoboken and Jersey City. “Not the water bug roaches,” the user writes. “However, this is a concern… Either way, make sure you guys are checking your bags and your pant legs.” Advisory to all PATH riders: Be on the lookout and hold your bags in your hand if possible.

Amish Market Opening on Newark Avenue in JC

After two years of life as a vacant lot, the former Tender Shoot Farm space is soon going to be home to Amish Market. The franchised Market  which has three other New York City locations in Tribeca, Hell’s Kitchen, and Midtown East — will include fresh produce, a deli, a dining area, a pizzeria, and a small-scale buffet. The Amish Market can be found at 138 Newark Avenue.

Parking Zone Changes Upcoming in the Heights

What’s in store for the Heights? Crucial changes to parking zones, most recently. The Parking Enforcement Division has distributed updated information on parking zone changes, effective September 2018.

One of the most note-worthy parking zone changes is that zone parking enforcement will be going on 24 hours a day, 6 days a week {only Sundays are excluded from the sched}.

Makeovers in Hoboken Is Closing

Yet another Hoboken staple is sadly, shutting down. Makeovers over on 327 Washington Street — which is known for its array of professional makeup, haircare, and beauty products — has announced via a sign that it’s closing as of December 2018. The beauty store, according to the store’s signage, is hosting a closing sale, offering 50% off and claiming that everything must go.

 

Cantigas Women’s Choir Preps for New Artistic Director

After serving 16 years as the Cantigas Women’s Choir Artistic Director, Joan Isaacs Litman has retired from the role and now, Cantigas is welcoming a some new and bright-eyed. Hannah Car will now be helming Cantigas, the Hudson County-based choir that pursues a mission of cross-cultural understanding and community diversity through singing music from all around the world.

“With Cantigas, I have found a home in both the love of world and folk repertoire as well as the emphasis on culture and community through its various outreach initiatives and concerts,” says Carr.

Cantigas is known for their seasonal winter and spring concerts in both the ‘Bokes and JC, but Cantigas also regularly performs for inmates at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Clinton, NJ, and for several Hudson County nonprofit organizations that give back to our community.

One for All Cafe Opens on Montgomery Street in McGinley Square

Next to the McGinley Square Pub on Montgomery Street in Jersey City lives a new cafe called All for One. AFO does not yet have an address online  — or social media, for that matter  — but is already receiving some traction thanks to its sandwiches, salads, and coffees, all made with organic ingredients. Pastries and empanadas are imported to One for All from local shops, and according to swift reddit users, everything in the store is priced at $1.99. Go in now and you could walk away with a free croissant tacked onto your coffee order.

 

Asana Yoga Studio Will Open Second Location by Mid-September

Welcome to Hoboken, Asana! {Again.} The Hoboken-founded Asana yoga studio is looking to open up its second location in the Mile Square City as of mid-September. The second location will be in the Powerhouse Arts District. Asana is also hiring — front desk work for free yoga in exchange. Feel free to contact them {here}.

Missing Hoboken Woman Found

60-year-old Marie Kavanagh was reported missing in Hoboken earlier in the week, but was eventually found in New York City by the NYPD. She was thankfully found safe and was reunited with her family.
