Hoboken PATH Station Fully Closing for 25 Days in 2025
Hoboken’s PATH station, located at 1 Hudson Place, will fully close in early 2025 for various repairs. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) announced the news on October 31st, saying that the station will close to complete critical track + switch upgrades and station rehabilitation work as a part of the two-year PATH Forward program. The closure will occur from late evening on Thursday, January 30th, 2025 through early morning on Tuesday, February 25th, 2025. Click here for more.

Just as the Bruce Springsteen biopic officially kicks off production, Jeremy Allen White — who’s portraying The Boss — stopped in Hoboken for a little book shopping. The actor, known for his roles as Lip in Shameless and Carmy in The Bear, paid a visit to Little City Books on Sunday, October 27th. The actor returned on October 29th for an early morning pick-me-up at Mojo Coffee’s uptown location. He then made his way up Bloomfield Street. Click here for more.

New Yoga Spot ‘Yoga Empowerment Studio’ Opens in Jersey City Heights

Yoga Empowerment Studio recently opened its doors at 1217 Summit Avenue in the Jersey City Heights area. The studio announced its first yoga class two weeks ago on Instagram. Yoga Empowerment Studio provides authentic, affordable yoga classes for all levels, from beginners to advanced, and senior citizens.
Public Art Installation Coming to Maxwell Place Waterfront Park
Maxwell Place Waterfront Park has been selected by the City of Hoboken for an exciting project of a short-term public art installation, starting at the end of October 2024 through the end of June 2025. The installation will not impact public access to the waterfront and will not impede scenic views. Per a message from Maxwell Place Condominiums, the art is interactive and kid-friendly. The art comes from Brooklyn-based artist CHIAOZZA and is described as “Charm Harbour.”
2 Hoboken Restaurants Make Yelp’s List of Top Places to Eat
There are two Hoboken spots on Yelp’s Top Places to Eat in North Jersey in 2024. Coming in at number 28 is Toast X Bowl, located at 328 Washington Street. This spot specializes in Asian-inspired bowls + sandwiches. Antique Bar + Bakery, 122 Willow Avenue, came in at number 50. This iconic Hoboken restaurant is known for its gourmet meals cooked in a coal-fired oven.
Hoboken Residents to Vote on Rent Control Referendum in the Upcoming Election
The rent control saga continues again this Election Day for Hoboken residents. It’s the third time the topic of changing Hoboken’s rent control laws has been brought up in 2024. On the ballot this year is a question asking residents to vote on an amendment to the City’s rent control code. The change would allow landlords to increase rent after a tenant vacates to market price without limitation if they pay a fee to the Hoboken Affordable Housing Trust Fund. It comes after Hoboken City Council voted down a proposal to change how rent-controlled properties are priced after a long-term tenant vacates it. Click here for more.
Teen in Critical Condition After Crash with Vehicle in Jersey City
A 17-year-old is in critical condition after he was involved in a crash on October 27th on Route 440 and Danforth Avenue in Jersey City. Per NJ.com, the minor was injured by a motor vehicle while riding a scooter. The cyclist received medical attention at the scene and was transported to a local hospital with apparent life-threatening injuries to his head. The investigation is ongoing.
Signage Spotted for New Café + CBD Shop on 14th Street in Hoboken

Water Main Break on Hoboken’s Clinton Street

Early in the morning on Tuesday, October 29th, at around 6AM, a water main broke in Hoboken, causing the 500 block of Clinton Street (between Fourth Street + Sixth Street) to flood. At 6:01AM, the Hoboken Office of Emergency Management and the Hoboken Police Department arrived on the scene for emergency repairs. As of 12:45PM, service had been restored to any impacted buildings. After Abrupt Closure in April, Camp Bow Wow Reopens in Hoboken Under New Ownership

Officials Celebrate the Completion of the Journal Squared Development in Jersey City

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, along with principals of KRE Group and National Real Estate Advisors, led a ribbon-cutting event on October 29th celebrating the completion of Journal Squared. Per a KRE Group press release, the $900 million, 2.3-million-square-foot project above the Journal Square PATH station took a decade to complete. The final 60-story tower completes the project, which now totals 1,840 rental residences across three towers.
Jersey City to Provide Land for Rebuild by Design Floodwall After Months of Delays
Construction of a federally funded floodwall will proceed in Jersey City after a months-long standoff between the city and the state over the properties needed to perform the work. Per NJ.com, Jersey City will provide the property access for the work near the Hoboken border nearly a year after both the state and Hoboken began to demand it.
Ferry Service from Hoboken to Brookfield Place to Increase
New York Waterway is set to increase service every 10 minutes during peak weekday morning and evening hours from Hoboken to Brookfield Place in Manhattan on November 4th. Per the Hudson County View, during the day, there will be a 10-minute ferry frequency that will operate between 7AM and 10AM, and again between 4PM and 7PM. There will also be additional return service in the evenings from between 7:20PM and 9:20PM, where the last ferry will depart at 9:10PM.
Truck Crashes Into Monroe Center in Hoboken
On October 29th around 6:30PM, a truck crashed into the Monroe Center in Hoboken at the corner of 8th and Grand. The scaffolding on the building also fell upon impact. Ambulances were on the scene, along with police and the fire department almost immediately. Eyewitness accounts shared that the truck was parked outside of the Monroe Center prior to the accident. Two people were taken to the hospital for medical attention. As of 11AM on Wednesday, October 30th, the truck has been removed, and some of the scaffolding has been partially taken down. There’s A New Cheese Pop-Up Inside Choc o Pain’s Hudson Tea Location in Hoboken

A new French cheese pop-up recently debuted in the Mile Square — meet La French Board. The pop-up is located inside Choc O Pain’s Hudson Tea store at 1500 Hudson Street in Hoboken, and serves up a variety of imported French cheeses, charcuterie items, and cheese accessories, among other things. Transgender Day of Remembrance to be Held at Stevens Park in Hoboken
The City of Hoboken LGBTQ+ Pride Advisory Committee is organizing the Transgender Day of Remembrance at the Northwest corner of Stevens Park (corner of Hudson + 5th) on November 20th at 7PM. This event is held to honor the lives lost to violence and discrimination against the transgender community. The location of the vigil is significant to Hoboken as it will be the future site of the Marsha P. Johnson statue.
Urban Market Hoboken Plans a November Opening on Washington Street
In October of 2022, we reported that Brooklyn-based shop Dumbo Market is officially coming to Hoboken at 1425 Washington Street, under the name Hoboken Market (surprising, we know). As of October 30, 2024, the market is making even more moves towards opening as some food is stocked. This move marks Dumbo Market’s first New Jersey location. Click here for more.
The Star-Ledger Halts Print Editions, Announces Closure of The Jersey Journal Publication
The Jersey Journal newspaper will close entirely after 157 years with its last edition being printed on January 31st. The Star-Ledger newspaper, which is owned by the same company, Advance Publications, will move to an online-only format, ceasing print publication. Per Patch Jersey City, the Star-Ledger will stop printing newspapers next February after almost 200 years in publication. The Newark Morning Ledger Co., which owns the newspaper, said declining circulation, rising costs, and reduced demand for print publications led them to this decision. The online version of the Star-Ledger will still publish articles daily.
NJMOM Baby Expo Returns to Hoboken
NJMOM, an online resource for moms around New Jersey, hosted its annual Baby Expo, an exclusive gathering for new and expecting parents. On November 3rd, from 9:30AM to 1:30PM, Hudson County locals attended this event at the W Hoboken Hotel at 225 River Street. Parents had the chance to see baby gear and accessories available for purchase, and local services, among other things. Click here for more.
Hoboken Council Members Announce Affordable Housing Platform
Hoboken Council members-at-Large Emily Jabbour and Joe Quintero have unveiled a housing platform focused on affordability, including a right-to-counsel. Per the Hudson County View, Jabbour indicated she will be pressing forward with a plan that will focus on building workforce and affordable housing on city property slated for redevelopment. Quintero will be seeking a local ordinance change to a law prohibiting “unconscionable” rent increases for renters in non-rent-controlled units. The ordinance will define “unconscionable” locally as any rent increase of 10 percent or higher. Both council members-at-large said they have a goal to present a specific proposal to the council in early 2025.
Hoboken Man Arrested in Connection to Church Square Park Attack
A man was arrested on October 31st after allegedly knocking a woman unconscious and hitting a man at Church Square Park in Hoboken. Per Patch Hoboken, police determined that the man, later identified as Troy Timberlake, 31, was cursing at people who walked by the gazebo in the center of the park, including one woman who he also spit on. When she turned to address him, he punched her and then followed her out of the park and punched her multiple times, knocking her unconscious. Troy then approached a man and hit him on the back of his head, near one of the playgrounds in the park. Troy was taken to police headquarters where he continued to yell, scream, and act aggressively. He was then taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

Signage Up at Hoboken’s New Tanning Salon in Former Big Fun Toys Space
In 2022, Hoboken said goodbye to a long-time local staple. Big Fun Toys, a family-owned toy shop on Washington Street, closed its doors for good after a 20-year run in the Mile Square. In its place comes a pretty far cry from the games and toys that were — according to signage outside that we noticed back in August, a tanning salon chain is slated to take over the space, with construction already underway. Hudson Regional Hospital Reaches Deal with CarePoint Health to Establish Hudson Health System
Hudson Regional Hospital has reached a deal with CarePoint Health to run its three hospitals after receiving approval from the volunteer CarePoint board on October 29th. Per the Hudson County View, Hudson Regional Hospital, Bayonne Medical Center, Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital will affiliate as Hudson Health System. The new arrangement will allow for greater managerial and financial flexibility, putting Hudson Health System on a sustainable path.
There’s a New Flower Vending Machine at Jersey City’s Newport Centre
Giving and receiving flowers are an immediate way to spark joy. An Elizabeth-based flower shop, Unique Creations, has expanded to Jersey City to make buying flowers even more convenient by creating a flower vending machine in Newport Centre Mall. Click here for more.
Wendy’s Opens New 24-Hour Location in Jersey City
Wendy’s has opened its first outpost in Jersey City’s Downtown area at 245 12th Street. Per Jersey Digs, the new restaurant features both a drive-thru and dine-in facility and is open 24 hours. This outpost is situated off the eastbound portion of the I-78 overlay adjacent to the exit ramp for Newport and Hamilton Park.
Jersey City Urged to Make Heights Bicycle Lane Permanent
Jersey City street safety advocates urged the City Council to make a Heights bike lane permanent before a six-figure state grant expires during the October 30th meeting. Per the Hudson County View, resident Danielle Dadamo requested for the Manhattan Avenue and Franklin Street demonstration project to be permanently implemented before the impending expiration of the $670,000 New Jersey Department of Transportation bikeway grants. She further argued it could connect to the Hudson Essex Greenway plan and reduce traffic deaths, which is the main objective of the city’s Vision Zero efforts.
Police Arrest Irvington Man After Trying to Break Into Hoboken Daycare
An Irvington man was arrested on October 30th after trying to break into a Hoboken daycare after somehow making his way into the playground area. Per the Hudson County View, police officers arrived and identified the man as Kevin Nguyen, of Irvington. School employees told police he had trespassed on school property before. Kevin was transported to Hoboken University Medical Center for evaluation before being remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
HeliNY Helicopter Sightseeing Coming to Hoboken
HeliNY, a New York City-based helicopter charter and sightseeing tour company, is coming to Hoboken. Signage was spotted at 323 Washington Street on November 1st. The company is known for its sightseeing flights over New York City in large helicopters with floor-to-ceiling windows.
Jersey City Council Approves Ordinance for Affordable Housing Preference
The Jersey City Council unanimously approved (9-0) an ordinance on October 30th, sponsored by Councilmen James Solomon and Frank Gilmore, that will grant local residents preference for new affordable housing units. Per the Hudson County View, the ordinance will create a preference for Jersey City residents when they’re applying for affordable housing units in the City, as long as those affordable housing units were not created with federal or state funding. The project was funded through the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, which has created about 1,000 units total. The ordinance ultimately passed unanimously (9-0) to applause from the audience.
