We’re HUGE fans of an adorable proposal.  The surprised faces, the excitement, and all those butterflies-in-your-stomach. And even if you’re not, these four local proposals are pretty Insta-worthy and will have even the scroogiest of onlookers feeling warm and fuzzy. Lucky for us, these Hoboken + Jersey City couples are willing to share their stories — and the unique proposals that went down. Read on to find out how these four sweet Hoboken + JC couples got engaged:

Jaime + Andrew

Vepo Clean

Although growing up in the same hometown and going to the same college, it wasn’t until a Kenny Chesney show that brought Andrew and Jamie together. At the time, Jamie lived in Hoboken and Andrew in Jersey City. After countless PATH trips and bike rides along the Hudson, they decided to move in together in Jersey City. JC is close to their heart which is why Andrew chose Liberty State Park to bring Jamie and ask her the most important question in his life. Before lunch at Liberty House, he asked her to go for a stroll and stopped directly across from their current home, Portside Towers. With their home and Jersey City as the backdrop, Andrew got down on one knee. Jamie said yes to their forever in front of the city where it all began.

Angela + John

angela john jersey city proposal

Angela and John met on 11/11/11 in Hoboken. John had planned a reunion dinner with some of his old teammates from high school to catch up. No sooner did the reunion begin, when Angela walked in, and John saw her for the very first time. He immediately told his friends he was bailing on his own reunion to go introduce himself to Angela. And while he eventually returned, it was not without first making plans to see Angela again.

Fast forward to Friday, June 20th, 2018, John planned a romantic birthday dinner for Angela on the Liberty House veranda in Jersey City. When the meal was finished and the sun was setting, John invited Angela over to the garden area of the pier and kindly asked their waitress to take their picture with the Freedom Tower in the background. They were getting ready for the picture when John leaned in for a kiss, and when Angela reopened her eyes, he was on one knee with an engagement ring in his hand, asking her to marry him.
Angela and John are longtime Hoboken residents who grew up in New Jersey, and have lived and worked in Hoboken/NYC their entire relationship.

Tara + Chris

Tara Chris proposal

Tara and Chris met in May of 2017. They connected on Coffee Meets Bagel and after chatting for about a week, decided to meet up for their first date. They met at Pier 13 and have been together ever since, and in September Chris moved to Hoboken to be with his future bride.

After a two-week winter break from school {Tara is a kindergarten teacher in Jersey City}, she headed back on Monday January 7th. That morning she received an email from the music teacher, Mr. S., that he “needed help” with her kindergarten class during their music period. Tara {who was very confused at this point} headed up there to see what was going on. After making her way over to investigate, the door of the music classroom opened and in came Chris with Daphne {her puggle}. He got down on one knee and proposed right there in front of her whole Kindergarten class, and of course, she said yes.

Katie + Joey

Katie and Joey proposal

Katie {a Radio City Rockette} and Joey met through a fellow Rockette. She had told the soon-to-be-couple about each other for a while, and the two finally met at a friend’s birthday party in the city. Fast forward seven years of dating and five years of living in Jersey City, Katie and Joey were headed to the opening night party for the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. It was the first snow of the season {which originally made Katie want to stay in and skip the party}, but Joey had luckily persuaded Katie get dressed up and head to opening night together.

After a few group photos at the party, Katie’s stage manager suggested that she and Joey take a picture while they had the stage and the stunning backdrop of the theater.

After the picture, Joey pulled Katie back as she started walking away and dropped to his knee. For Katie, it couldn’t have been a more special place to propose, as her job was the reason she met her fiancé in the first place. Of course, in the empty theater normally filled with people she performs for on the regular, she said a resounding yes.
