Hoboken Girl’s Mani Monday: A Visit to Hoboken Nail Spa {Valentine Edition}

It was that time of the year again, when reds and pinks joined forces for Cupid’s 24 hours of fame —Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re single or attached, your manicure bears no judgment. This year, I decided to expand past the “Big Apple” reds and “Bachelorette Party” pinks, and think up a lacquer palette for the neutral gals. Is it true once you go matte you never go back? I put this theory to the test at Hoboken Nail Spa located at {new location} 231 Washington Street.

Customer Service.

I had never been to the old Hoboken Nail Spa, so I figured what better time to try this place out during their grand re-opening? Upon arrival, I was greeted by the store manager. She was very sweet, especially since I had to reschedule my appointment about 3 times that day since I was unexpectedly {but expectedly} working later than I anticipated. I noticed they weren’t too busy during the time of my visit (weeknight), and were fully staffed. If you are looking to be in and out, or take your sweet time, this could be a good time frame to hit this salon.

Vibe.

Hobbs Inc

The space is very open and new {obviously since re-locating}. Each pedicure station was prepared with plenty of ammo, pre-cut paper towels, pre-twisted separators, cleaning supplies, scrubs, lotions, and tools. It was clear preparation was key to them at this salon, and they don’t want to waste anyone’s time! I also noticed a manicurist experimenting with a few new gel colors, which was refreshing to see as well. Her proactive approach to see how the color takes etc. during her ‘down time’ was impressive and did not go unnoticed. As someone who does a lot of trial and error with polish wear, I appreciated that effort!

The men and women working the salon were friendly to their clients and to each other – they seem to enjoy working together which is always a positive experience for the paying customers as well!

Polish Selection.

Hoboken Nail Spa has a decent ratio of gel polish, to regular polish; they carry OPI, Essie, Vinylux and a few rando’s. Actually, I had been vivaciously searching for Essie’s ‘Penny Talk,’ {#mood), and the manager had informed me they ran out. To my surprise, she had mentioned she will order that color for my next visit – talk about customization! That minor gesture really made me feel as if my preference mattered, so I’ll be going back to fulfill my metallic #mood.

Pricing.

A mani/pedi at HNS is $32 – which isn’t bad. To remove gel and get a regular manicure after that incurs a $5 charge. FYI: if you require plastic flip flops for a pedicure, they charge an additional $2 — so there a few extra charges.

Also, Monday through Wednesday from 10am – 3:30pm they run a $50 special for gel mani / regular pedi. Otherwise their gel manicures are $35.

I will say this is one of my STAPLE nudes, I absolutely LOVE this color, so much so that I own it myself! But it doesn’t wear as well as I’d like it to. The matte was a fun idea for the weekend but the dye from my jeans now layers my matte look. I’d recommend going matte with a dark color such as Essie’s ‘In the Lobby’ or OPI’s ‘Honk if you Love OPI.’

If you dare, reach for a bright purple {try Essie’s ‘Play Date’} or a metallic {Essie’s ‘Penny Talk’} color for a twist!
