We all know that it’s so much simpler to motivate yourself to work up a sweat when you’re with friends–it’s that much easier to finish up that run or do that last squat when you have someone watching to make sure you don’t cheat. {Trust me. When left to my own devices, I sometimes just walk slowly on the treadmill while watching Keeping up with the Kardashians. It happens.}

This group mentality is why I was particularly excited to join Stone Fox Fit for a group workout along the waterfront recently. The company, run by Ashley and Nicole {who are ridiculously in shape} organized a workout for a bunch of ladies who were ready to sweat like pigs, look like {stone} foxes.

We met up at Pier A for some pre-workout fuel and swag, like sunglasses and bracelets, before burning some calories. Ashley led us on a run {which I’ll be honest, was not the easiest thing to keep up with on a hot Sunday morning}. We stopped along the way for three sets of exercises: push ups and tricep dips {my arms are weak, did not enjoy}, planks and bicycle crunches {my abs were crying, but this is a necessary evil} and lunges and jump squats {running after this was NOT easy}.

Tsujita

I liked that the run was broken up, especially since it was about a jillion degrees out {yes, this is a scientific measurement} so that we could catch our breath and give our legs a bit of a rest. The little breaks also gave me a chance to bond with some of the other super fit ladies who were there–everyone was all about encouraging and cheering each other on.

The run was especially pumped up because we had the guys behind Spring Moves blasting amazing songs throughout the entire boot camp through speakers strapped to their backpacks. This was crucial to the run’s great vibe and, let’s be real, keeping me moving on a hot Sunday morning. {If you haven’t heard of it, Spring Moves is an app that matches music to your body’s rhythm. It makes working out so much easier. Really.} And it was great that there were a range of fitness levels, so that no matter your speed, you had someone to chat with along the run.

We finished up our two-mile loop and ended the workout back at Pier A for some restorative yoga led by Nicole. {At this point, me trying to stand was like a baby deer trying to walk for the first time, so stretching and breathing slowly was very, very welcome.}

After that, we hung around a bit while getting to know some of the ladies we had just spent the past two hours sweating with and looking through our Stone Fox swag bags, which TRUST ME, we had earned.

Just a small sampling of some of the stuff I took home in my swag bag. It was worth the sweat sesh!
