October is finally here, which means that today marks the official start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All month long, events that aim to raise money for the cause and honor those who are suffering or who have suffered from breast cancer will be happening nationwide. Of course, our little slice of the country here in Hudson County is taking part in the month-long event by hosting a slew of local events that pay homage to those who have been affected by breast cancer in one way or another. Keep reading for all the breast cancer awareness month events happening Hoboken, Jersey City, and beyond this October 2019.

Workout + Fight for a Cure — Every Weekend in October
Work it Out will be honoring those affected by breast cancer with special classes each weekend that are donation based. A donation of $10 or more will be collected when you arrive for the class and all the donations collected will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Get more information here.
More Than Pink Wellness Expo — Sunday, October 6th from 12:00PM-4:00PM
Harborside Atrium {210 Hudson Street, Jersey City} will host the More Than Pink Wellness Expo which will feature free clinical breast exams, mammograms, health/wellness exhibits, and more. Get more information about this event here.
Sweat Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Dance Fitness Party — Sunday, October 6th from 12:00PM-2:00PM
The Hudson Dance Studio {986 River Road, Edgewater} will be hosting an epic dance event to help raise awareness for breast cancer. Get more information here.
Girl Power Themed Rides at Prime Cycle — Saturday, October 12th through Saturday, October 19th
Prime Cycle will be honoring breast cancer awareness month by hosting a variety of girl power themed rides featuring music from a slew of big-name female artists. Plus, they will have a donation jar out and will match 50% of what they raise on October 31st. Book your spot in a girl-power themed class here.
Making Strides of Bergen County — Saturday, October 12th at 8:00AM
The first of the local bunch, join the American Cancer Society for their Making Strides walk to raise awareness for breast cancer in Bergen County at the MetLife Stadium {1 MetLife Stadium Drive, East Rutherford}. Get more information here.

Little Hoboken Fundraiser — Wednesday, October 16th from 7:00PM-9:00PM
Join Little Hoboken at House of ‘Que {340 Frank Sinatra Drive, Hoboken} for a special fundraiser to raise money for Little Hoboken’s Making Strides Team, LH Fight Like a Mother Team. Get more information here.
Shaka Bowl Benefit — Thursday, October 17th from 6:00PM-10:00PM

The 6th Anniversary of Think Pink Celebration of Life — Wednesday, October 23rd from 7:00PM-10:00PM

Power of Pink — Susan Lucianna Breast Cancer Fund — Thursday, October 24th from 7:00PM-11:00PM

Breast Cancer Awareness Brunch — Sunday, October 27th from 11:00AM-2:00PM

There’s a Chicken Wing Contest for Charity Coming to Hoboken on 2/1
After a five-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Hoboken's chicken wing contest is making a return in 2025. Hosted by St. Francis Church and benefitting Fr. Michael Food Pantry, 11 restaurants from around the Mile Square (and one in Jersey City) will compete for the title of "King of Wings." The event will take place on Saturday, February 1st from 6PM-10PM at the Hoboken Elks Club, located at 1005 Washington Street. Event Details
A Wing + A Prayer — a popular Hoboken event that was last held in February of 2020 — will make its return to the Mile Square on Saturday, February 1st, 2025, with proceeds benefiting the Fr. Michael Food Pantry at St. Francis Church. Per a press release, the event will be held from 6PM to 10PM at the Hoboken Elks Club, located at 1005 Washington Street.

So, how does the event work? Eleven restaurants from around Hoboken and Jersey City will be showcasing their chicken wings in a people's choice competition to crown the "best wings in Hoboken." The participating restaurants are as follows:

- Dark Side of the Moo | 52 Bowers Street, Jersey City
- Farside Tavern | 531 Washington Street

- Johnny Pepperoni | 219 11th Street
- Madd Hatter | 221 Washington Street
- Madison Bar + Grill | 1316 Washington Street
- Tony Boloney’s | 263 1st Street
Those in attendance will vote for their favorite wings, and the winning restaurant gets to take home the trophy to be held at their restaurant until the next event.
The organizers shared with The Hoboken Girl that the pantry provides monthly groceries to families in need, and that the proceeds from this event will help bring back the daily sandwich program.
