Whether you’re taking a break from alcohol, or are just tired of the to-go cocktails in Hoboken, there’s plenty to do in the Mile Square that doesn’t revolve around drinking, even in today’s climate. Instead, locals and tourists alike can take advantage of the culture and activities Hoboken has to offer. From trying a new sport to learning about the history of where you live {or are visiting} — there’s always something to do, sans alcohol, no matter what time of year it is. 

Go Rock Climbing at the Gravity Vault {1423 Clinton Street}

For a unique solo or socially-distanced group activity, try rock climbing at the Gravity Vault in Hoboken. This local climbing gym is open seven days a week beginning at 9:00AM. Come early to start your day or go in the evening instead of to-go cocktail hopping around the Mile Square {you’re guaranteed to wake up feeling better than after a night of drinking}. The Gravity Vault has 25,00 square feet of climbing spread across two different floors and is open to both experienced and novice climbers. From top rope, lead walls and boulders, to dedicated strength training and cardio areas, this massive gym has something for everyone. Play Socially-Distanced Sports

Although indoor sports and sports leagues are currently not being offered due to the pandemic, you and your family, roommate, or closest friends can still get out there and play a socially-distant game of something at the local parks. Bring your yoga mats for a waterfront flow or HIIT session, or simply bring the balls out for a kick-around game of soccer.

Try a New Outdoor or Virtual Workout Class

From spin to barre, Pilates to boxing, Hoboken has dozens of fitness studios for every type of workout. And now, those studios are taking the workouts outside so you can still get your sweat on amid the pandemic. Look for intro specials to try classes for free or at a discounted rate so you can explore what studio is right for you. Or, consider signing up for ClassPass so you can continue to try a range of classes at the best rate. Book an evening outdoor yoga or kickboxing class {you’ll have just as much fun as a night at the club {without the hangover the next day}.

Visit the Hoboken Historical Museum {1301 Hudson Street}

The Hoboken Historical Museum has been around since the ‘80s and has rotating exhibitions and activities related to the history and culture of Hoboken. Visit the website to find out what exhibition is currently on display and discover new programs and activities like tai chi, meditation, and yoga. The museum is open six days a week and admission is only $5. Stop by on Saturday for a full day learning about Hoboken.

Treat Yourself

Explore one of the many salons, wellness centers, and spas around Hoboken and treat yourself to a day that’s all about you. Take advantage of a break from alcohol to further benefit your body. Make a day that’s all about you and take some time to relax and unwind. 

Enjoy an Outdoor Meal with a Mocktail

Taking a break from drinking doesn’t have to mean taking a break from eating. So many restaurants in Hoboken are now are offering their meals outdoors in the gorgeous summer evening weather so hit up your favorite Italian place, grab tacos at a Mexican spot, or make a reservation wherever your favorite might be, all while not drinking {if you don’t feel like it}.
