Alvin, the 3-Legged Husky Mix, Looking for a Forever Home

Written by:

Meet Alvin, a 3-legged Husky mix who recently arrived from the south Saturday and is doing so well, according to his foster mom! Alvin’s leg was amputated three weeks ago after being shot by a neighbor for chasing chickens. His ‘owner’ then brought him to the vet to be euthanized because he didn’t want to deal with it. Thankfully that vet reached out to the rescue Hounds in Pounds and they sponsored his surgery and care. He is available for adoption and ready for his forever home, hopefully somewhere in New Jersey. Read on for more about this adorable husky mix with 3 legs, affectionally known by his foster mom as ‘the tripod.’

Alvin loves other dogs, kids and doesn’t mind cats, according to the rescue. He does well in his crate and is fully housebroken. He runs and plays just like any other dog, despite having 3 legs.
The pics were taken in front of LBHealthy Pet Market on S Fullerton Ave. “The owner, Mark, always donates goodies to my fosters whenever I bring them in. Bella,  the resident shop dog, is also a precious foster from a few years back,” Tiffany of Hounds im Pounds shared with us.

According to his foster mom who is located in New Jersey, “Whoever adopts this fella is getting an GEM. He’s the most chill, laid back husky. He loves to run and is not phased by his leg at all.

Alvin came to us after being shot by someone for chasing chickens. Sadly, the bullet shattered his shoulder and his front leg had to be amputated. Alvin has made a quick comeback and is getting around just fine. His amputation site requires no additional care, he has been cleared for full activity. He is 12 months old and weighs 46 lbs. Alvin is vaccinated, neutered, heart worm negative and micro-chipped.”
